Klaus : Thank you for your letter regarding the accuracy of the counts for Ames . We have reviewed the evidence you provided and our 1990 census records in an effort to resolve your concerns . our review found an error in the geographic assignment of living quarters and associated population within your city in Census Tract 8 , Blocks 114A and 114B. To resolve this situation, we will correct our records based on the information you provided showing the location of living quarters in Census Tract 8 , Blocks 114A and 114B. These corrections will include making the appropriate modifications to census records so that they will show the revised geographic assignment of living quarters and associated population for your city. The corrected population count for Block 114A is 1278 and the corrected population for Block 114B is 995 . The Census Bureau will incorporate these corrections into the Population Estimates Program. Since these blocks and housing units are included in the census counts for Ames, these corrections will not change the total population for the city. Of course , apportionment or redistricting counts and subsequent 1990 census data products will remain unchanged. This will ensure the timely release of data and will allow us to maintain the consistency between data products necessary for comparison. The Census Bureau will show the corrections in a supplemental user note . The Census Bureau appreciates the importance of an accurate count to state and local officials in Iowa and across the Nation. Thank you for your interest in the 1990 census . Sincerely, EDWIN B. WAGNER, JR. f Assistant Division Chief for Operations Decennial Planning Division Bureau of the Census
