HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form dated July 23, 1991 ITEM #
DATE July 23, 1991
SUBJECT: Electrical Licensing
BACKGROUND:
Currently, in order to receive an electrical permit one must be licensed. In
order to be licensed an individual must pass a written exam, and after
passing renews his or her license once every other year by payment of a fee.
The National Electrical Code to which we adhere changes on a routine basis
every three years. The last change was made in 1991. Because these
changes may be significant, staff proposes to require electricians to attend
the latest code update seminar before renewal of a license. These seminars
will be arranged locally and the presentation will be made by a National Code
representative. This will insure that our electricians remain current with
code changes as they occur.
This licensing change to the City Code was reviewed and approved by the
Board of Electrical Examiners on July 9, 1991.
ALTERNATIVES
1. Approve the request recommending that all licensed electricians be
required to attend an electrical code update seminar prior to license
renewal.
2. Deny the request.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is the recommendation of the City Manager that the City Council adopt
Alternative #1.
