HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Revising Test and Examination Procedures for Journeyman Plumbers ORDINANCE NO. 3137 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SUBSECTION 21.16(3), SECTION 21.23, 21.24, 21.25, 21.26, 21.27, AND 21.28 AD THEY NOW EXIST AND ENACTING A NEW SUBSEC- TION 21.16(3), AND NEW SECTIONS 21.23, 21.26, AND 21.28 FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVISING TEST AND EXAMINATION PROCEDURES; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; ESTABLISHING A PENALTY AND SETTING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa: Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa is hereby amended by repealing Subsection 21.16(3) as it now exists and enacting a new Subsection 21.16(3) as follows: "(3) Journeyman plumber. A journeyman plumber is a person who through training and experience has acquired the requisite skill and knowledge necessary for the proper installation, alteration and repair of plumbing and who holds a valid license as a journeyman plumber from the city. A journeyman plumber shall have had at least four (4) years' experience as an apprentice plumber." Section Two. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames is hereby further amended by repealing Section 21.23 as it now exists and enact- ing a new Section 21.23 as follows: "Sec. 21.23. APPLICATION FOR LICENSE REQUIRED Each applicant for a license either as a journeyman or master plumber shall fill out and file, with the City Clerk, an application for license on forms furnished." Section Three. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames is hereby further amended by repealing Section 21.26 as it now exists and enact- ing a new Section 21.26 as follows: "Sec. 21.26. EXAMINATION, AUTHORIZATION OF ISSUANCE OF LICENSE. The Plumbing inspector shall review the qualifications of such applicant and notify the applicant of the date, time and place of the written exam, if found to meet the stated quali- fications." Section Four. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames is hereby further amended by repealing Section 21.28 as it now exists and enact- ing a new Section 21.28 as follows: "Sec. 21.28. ISSUANCE OF LICENSE. The City Clerk shall issue a license to those individuals that, having applied and been found qualified for examination, have passed such examination as reported by the plumbing inspector." Section Five. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a municipal infraction and be punishable as set out in Section 1.9, Ames Municipal Code. Section Six. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith shall be repealed to the extent of such conflict if any. Section Seven. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as required by law. Passed this 23rd day of July 1991.
