HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Exempting Stores selling packaged liquor from posting notice forbidding minors ORDINANCE NO. 3119 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SUBSECTION 17.16(1) OF THE AMES MUNICIPAL CODE AND READOPTING THE SUBSECTION REVISED TO EXEMPT STORES SELLING PACK- AGED LIQUOR; ESTABLISHING A PENALTY AND SETTING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa: Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be and is hereby amended by repealing subsection 17.16(1) thereof and re-enacting the same revised to read as follows: "Sec. 17.16. UNDERAGE PERSONS PROHIBITED ON PREMISES. (1) It shall be unlawful for the holder of a license or permit issued pursuant to the 'Iowa Alcoholic Beverage Control Act' for premises where more than fifty percent (50 0) of the business conducted is the sale or dispensing of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, and for any person employed with respect to such premises to knowingly permit or fail to take reasonable measures to prevent the entry onto such premises of any and all persons who have not yet attained the age of twenty-one. It shall be the duty of the licensee and of the person or persons managing such premises to cause to be posted and maintained at all times an easily readable notice in the English language stating that persons less than 21 years of age are prohibited from entering the premises." Section Two. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a simple misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $100 or by imprisonment for not more than 30 days. Section Three. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith shall be repealed to the extent of such conflict if any. Section Four.
