HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Cover letter dated September 17, 1990 CITY OF AMES , IOWA 5001 I ALL-AME "'CITY 1982-1J8.3 September 17, 1990 The Honorable Larry R. Curtis, Mayor, and Members of the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa 50010 Re: Ordinance to Conform Municipal Code Provisions to Stop Sign/Light Locations Dear Mayor Curtis and Council Members: With this is an ordinance prepared to conform Code provisions on "through streets" to the actual location of stop signs/lights. The through street provisions of the Municipal Code establish the right- of-way for vehicular movement through street intersections. However, the Code allows for special stops to be established by administrative designa- tion. The process involves a written designation of the stop being pro- cessed through City staff. This designation is then included in an Appen- dix to the Municipal Code. It has long been a concern of this Department, that over the last ten years a few stop signs/lights may have cropped up without the benefit of written designations. In the past two weeks, the Traffic Engineer has found time to complete a survey of stop sign/light locations, and surprisingly only three undocumented signs/lights were found. They are located at Douglas and 6th, Clark and 6th, and Brookridge and 6th. The attached ordinance amends the through street designation of 6th Street to avert to the location of those signs/lights. It was also found that the through street designation of Lincoln Way re- ferred to a stop sign at Stanton when, in fact, no such stop sign exists. The attached ordinance amends the subsection pertaining to Lincoln Way to eliminate! reference to a stop at Stanton. This is a housekeeping ordinance and should be enacted as soon as possible.
