HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Request from Ames Community Schools for school bus loading zoning at Sawyer Ames Community Schools September 24, 1990 76090 ----IoThe Honorable Larry Curtis --Office of the Ma or y ACity of Ames -- 515 Clark Ames, Iowa 50010 Re: Sawyer Elementary School, School-Bus Loading Zone Dear Mr. Mayor: The Ames Community School District would like to request the City Council approve a school-bus loading zone at the Sawyer Elementary School, 4315 Ontario Street. This loading zone should be on the south side of Ontario Street, from the east edge of the yellow "No Parking Zone" in front of the fire hydrant extending 135 feet east of that point, which would be at the east edge of the school district's property. We request that there be no parking in this zone from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. We are requesting this school-bus loading zone because of the congestion there now with parents picking up and dropping off students in the Sawyer driveway, along with the presence of school buses at the same time. This makes an unsafe situation. Principal Harry Heiligenthal has been working with Scott Logan, City of Ames, Bill Sanford, our Maintenance Department, and Kirby Brier with Central Iowa Transit, our transportation company, and this is their recommendation. Harry Heiligenthal would like this zone established as soon as possible, and the school district hereby requests favorable action on this matter. Harry Heiligenthal will be glad to answer any specific questions you may have about this request. Sincerely, Joe W.
