HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Memo dated November 15, 1989 to City Council AMES i I TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Clerk's Office DATE: November 15, 1989 RE: Ordinance Revision Pertaining to Licensing of Garbage Haulers, Tree Surgeons and Street Vendors One of the requirements for obtaining a Tree Surgeon's License, a Garbage Hauler's License or a Street Vendor's License is that the applicant furnish a Certificate of Insurance in a prescribed amount. Currently, there is nothing in any ordinance which requires the insurance to run concurrent with the license. Oftentimes, the City Clerk's Office is furnished with a Certificate of Insurance which expires before the license expires; thus, it is possible that there would be a lapse in the insurance coverage. In addition, it is difficult for the Clerk's Office to force the applicant to provide a new Certificate once they have the license in their possession. In most cases, the insurance has been renewed; however, our office is not copied on the Certificate of Insurance. In an effort to eliminate the possibility of a lapse in the required insurance coverage and the need for continuous follow-up, an ordinance revision has been prepared by John Klaus and is attached hereto. This ordinance would require the insurance to coincide with the licensing period, e.g. , if the license runs from January 1, 1990 through December 31, 1990, then the insurance must run from January 1, 1990 through December 31, 1990. /dry Attachment
