HomeMy WebLinkAboutA002 - Letter dated February 6, 1989 from Lorna Peterson 2609 Ferndale Avenue Apartment #10 February 6, 1989 Historic Commission Members Planning and Zoning Commission Members City Council Members Please support the creation of an historic preservation district for the Old Town neighborhood in Ames. When I interviewed here in October 1983 and was given a tour of Ames, my first reaction was horror. I remember gasping to my host "But everything is so new!" and thinking how charmless Ames is. Finally I was taken to the area proposed to be the Old Town Neighborhood Historic District and was relieved to see architecture existing from the 19th and early 20th century. Leaving Athens, Ohio, an incredibly quaint town of cobblestone streets and homes representing several styles of architecture, didn't seem too impossible. I live in a dull, common, Hunziker and Furman breadbox special - white walls, green carpet, three story brick building with a flat roof. When I want to escape my pedestrian surroundings, I walk down to Douglas to see my favorite homes past 9th Street. I urge you to vote for historic preservation in Ames. Sincerely yours, Lorna Peterson
