HomeMy WebLinkAboutA003 - Council Action Form dated July 11, 1989 R COUNCIL ACTION FORM Item # Date: July 11, 1989 SUBJECT: Recommendation to restrict parking on Van Buren 240' south of 24th Street. BACKGROUND: The residents have petitioned for parking restrictions on both sides of Van Buren from 24th Street to approximately 300' south of 24th Street. There are currently no parking restrictions along both sides of Van Buren Avenue except for the 50' corner clearance next to 24th Street because of the school crossing at the intersection. There is a 30 degree curve on Van Buren Avenue beginning 100' and ending 180' south of 24th Street. There is a ten foot drop in elevation along this curve section. This street is 30' wide which is typically adequate for on-street parking along one side. This street serves single family dwellings and there are driveways for each dwelling. However, some residents have too many vehicles or don't use their driveways and park vehicles on the street. There are sight restrictions caused by these parked vehicles along this street section which is compounded by the curve and gradient drop. There would be adequate sight distance if parking was restricted 60' on both sides south of the curve section (240' south of 24th Street). It is recommended that parking be restricted on both sides of Van Buren Avenue from 24th Street to 240' south of 24th Street. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Restrict parking on both sides of Van Buren 240' south of 24th Street. 2. Restrict parking on both sides of Van Buren 300' south of 24th Street. 3. Leave parking as it presently exists. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is recommended by the City Manager that the City Council adopt alter- native number 1 above, thereby restricting parking on both sides of Van Buren 240' south of 24th Street.
