HomeMy WebLinkAboutA003 - Council Action Form dated October 6, 1987 4 COUNCIL ACTION FORM Item # v' Date: October 6th, 1987 SUBJECT: Parking Problem on Ontario Circle. BACKGROUND: Mr. Robin G. Formaker, 1305 Ontario Circle has submitted a letter to the Mayor and City Council requesting that yellow curb lines be painted inside the cul-de-sac at Ontario Circle. All residential units served by Ontario Circle are condominiums. The inside portion of the cul-de-sac is con- structed to provide for some parking spaces. These spaces are typically utilized, and extra vehicles typically park along the remainder of the cul-de-sac circle. The parking spaces within the cul-de-sac were devel- oped privately with the stipulation that no city maintenance will ever occur within the area of the parking spaces. The staff believes that it would be appropriate to restrict parking along the inside of the Ontario Circle cul-de-sac except for the area covered by the parking spaces. This solution appears to be one that would provide for safe and efficient traffic movements through the circle as well as force on-street parkers to locate in off-street parking areas that are provided for the condominiums. This is the second request of this type. Parking adjacent to the cul-de-sac circle is obviously creating problems for some residents. It may be appropriate to prohibit all parking adjacent to cul-de-sac circles except where parking spaces have been specially designed. A copy of a memo addressing this issue is attached. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Direct the City staff to paint the cul-de-sac at the inside of Ontario Circle yellow except for the parking spaces already provided. 2. Direct the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance prohibiting parking adjacent to all cul-de-sac circles. 2. Deny the request. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is recommended by the City Manager that the City Council adopt alter- native number 1 above, thereby directing the City staff to paint the cul-de-sac at the inside of Ontario Circle yellow except for the parking spaces already provided. It is also recommended that alternative #2 be approved thereby directing the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance prohibiting parking adjacent to all cul-de-sac circles. COUNCIL ACTION
