HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Letter from Robin G. Formaker dated September 24, 1987 requesting yellow curb lines on Ontario Circle September 24, 1987 FILED S EP 2 51987 Mayor and City Council L CITY CLERK 621 Main Street CITY Of AMES, IOWA Ames, IA 50010 Dear Mayor and City Council Members: I am writing to request that yellow curb lines be painted inside the cul-de- sac at Ontario Circle. The circle is composed of condominiums. I reside at 1305 Ontario Circle and I find that my driveway is continually encroached upon by vehicles parked on one or both sides of my driveway. There really is insufficient curb space to properly accomodate on-street parking within the circle. This makes it difficult, and at times hazardous, for my wife and me when we attempt to go in or out of our driveway. Furthermore, this type of on-street congestion obstructs the vision of drivers exiting their drives within the circle and can impede the efforts of city crews to fully clear snow from the circle during winter. We have experienced situations where vehicles are parked two to three feet over into the space in front of our driveway, and one recent Saturday, I awoke to find a vehicle parked entirely across my driveway. On at least one occasion the police ticketed a vehicle which encroached upon my driveway. The police officer recommended that I contact the city trans- portation engineer to request that yellow curb lines be painted. On Thursday, September 24, I spoke with the city transportation engineer, Jim Valenta, and he recommended that I write you with my request. Mr. Valenta authorized me to state that he spoke with me and that he recommends that yellow curb lines be painted throughout the inside of the cul-de-sac. I appreciate your attention to my request and if you have questions, please feel free to contact me in writing or by phone at 292-3673• Respectfully submitted, 64;) Robin G.
