HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action form dated January 20, 1987 COUNCIL ACTION FORM Item # - Date: January 20, 1987 SUBJECT: Parking Ordinance - Duff Avenue BACKGROUND: The City Council submitted an application to the Iowa Department of Transportation to widen and reconstruct Duff Avenue from Sixteenth Street to Twentieth Street. This project would be pursued during the Summer of 1987 under partial (75%) funding using Federal Aid Urban System (FADS) funds from the Federal Highway Administration. One stipulation contained in the FAUS Project Agreement is that parking shall be prohibited from within the project limits after construction has been completed. This assurance means that Ames Section 18.21 (42) requires an amendment that prohibits parking on both sides of Duff Avenue from the south corporate limits to Twentieth Street. This ordinance would eliminate parking from within the project limits. Currently parking along Duff Avenue between Sixteenth Street and Twentieth Street is prohibited only from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. daily. ALTERNATIVES: 1 . Direct the City Attorney to prepare a parking ordinance prohibiting parking along Duff Avenue between Sixteenth Street and Twentieth Street. 2. Direct staff to withdraw from the FAUS project. MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is recommended by the City Manager that Council adopt alternative number 1 above, thereby directing the City Attorney to prepare a parking ordinance prohibiting parking along Duff Avenue between Sixteenth Street and Twentieth Street. COUNCIL ACTION:
