NOV I Ames, Iowa CITY CLERK CM OF MASS,KNA Gentlemen : Having received a copy of the Public Notice of she "Pawnshop and Precious Metal Ordinance" which is being considered at your meeting to be held November 19, I have some comments to present. Item: Records of Transactions and Retention of Purchases. item (iv) the estimated value of each artic e" . The estimated value of each article mould be Whatever the market would bear for the ikem. Many times the sale price is below what is paid for the item due to slow sales and need to move the merchandise in order to cash flow or make room for faster moving items. I do not believe this item is needed in the ordinance. item (vi) "the date, name, address and phone number of the person when an item- is bought or redeemed" . This item would Create a hardship on the seller, as many people, including myself, do not wish to give this informa- tion when purchasing for cash. Many people feel that is only a way to be put on a junk mailing list. I feel that this would create lost sales. I also feel that this item in the ordinance would be singling out specific businesses for this re-,uirement, unless all businesses in the city which handles cash sales would be M quired to wri+e sales slips and take this infor- mation, rather than use cash register slip for sales. Item: Prohibition: same.. (aI•have . spoken •to•Chief• or any Ballantineson aboutathisg to section same and he assured me that th; is was not intended to allow just anyone who is not a law officer to walk in and go through my inventory. Other than the above comments, I have no objections to the ordinance . Thank you for taking my-' comments into consideration. Respectfully, Bob Rosenbaum "Ma C°.-- Ames, Iowa
