Goodland and City Council Members City of Ames Ames, IA 50010 Re: Conceptual Development Plan Enterprise Subdivision Dear Mayor Goodland and Council Members: The present subdivision ordinance requires an 80' right of way be dedicated for the street and related improvements. An 80' width right of way is needed where a 41' street is to be installed. However, in areas that require a 25' street, we feel that a 60' right of way would be sufficient. Twenty feet in width may not sound like much in itself, but if you equate it to the lineal footage of DuPont Circle and Wright Circle, the use of an 80' right of way requires over 3/4 of an acre more than the use of a 60' right of way. If the ordinance were amended to allow for a 60' right of way to be used, the cost of land would be reduced. We therefore would propose that Section 23.22, Paragraph 2 of the Subdivision Ordinance, be amended to allow for the use of a 60' right of way where 25' streets are required.
