SUBJECT: Parking Ordinance on Hunt Street
BACKGROUND:
On February 28, 1984 Council amended the P-C plan for 2513 Hunt Street.
Prior to this date, Council approved a P-C plan for 2504 Hunt Street. Both
P-C plans show angle on-street parking.
The Ames Code provides for alternate side parallel parking on Hunt Street.
The angle parking approved with both P-C plans is in conflict with the
alternate side parking regulation. The parking configurations approved
with the P-C Plans can facilitate vehicles parked on both sides of Hunt
Street without imposing traffic flow restrictions to the roadway. Thus an
alternate side parking regulation is no longer necessary near these
developments.
Section 18.23(g) requires an amendment to allow parking on both sides of
Hunt Street along the frontages of both developments. Section 18.10(2c)
also needs revision to provide for legal angle parking where approved by
Council . No other parking regulation changes are needed in this area.
ALTERNATIVES:
1 . Approve on first reading the attached ordinance.
2. Leave the parking Code as it currently exists.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is recommended by the City Manager that Council adopt alternative number
one above, thereby approving on first reading the attached ordinance.
COUNCIL ACTION:
