AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF
THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA BY REPEALING SUBSECTION
29.41(8) AND ENACTING A NEW SUBSECTION 29.41(8);
AND ENACTING A NEW SUBSECTION 29.41(9), ALL FOR
THE PURPOSE OF REVISING THE ZONING REGULATIONS
PERTAINING TO OFF-STREET PARKING SPACE DIMEN-
SIONS; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT TO THE EXTENT OF CON-
FLICT; PROVIDING A PENALTY; AND, ESTABLISHING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE
BE IT ENACTED, by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa:
Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, is hereby
amended by repealing Subsection 29.41(8) as it exists now and enacting a
new Subsection 29.41(8) to read as follows:
"(8) Maneuvering space and width of parking area is required to
permit safe and convenient movement of vehicles. The follow-
ing are space requirements for various parking angles for
full-size automobiles.

Section two. The Municipal Code is further amended by enacting a new
Subsection 29.41(9) to read as follows:
"(9) Smaller parking stalls for small cars are allowed only when
the parking lot involved consists of ten (10) or more off-
street parking spaces. These parking stalls shall be at least
eight (8) feet wide and sixteen (16) feet long. No more
than 20 percent (200) of the required off-street parking stalls
shall be designated for small cars. All small car stalls shall
be clearly identified with signs. In computing the number of
permitted small car stalls where a fractional number of spaces
results, the number of permitted small car spaces shall be
rounded to the next lowest number.

Section Three. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict if any.
Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and publication as required by law.
Section Five. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall be
punishable as a simple misdemeanor by a fine not to exceed one hundred
(100) dollars or by imprisonment for a period not to exceed thirty (30)
days.
