SUBJECT ! Proposed Amendment to Section 3.10 and 3.11 of Ames Municipal Code
Two changes to Sections 3.10 and 3.11 of the Ames Municipal Code are
proposed in the attached ordinance. The first deletes the words
"City Sanitarian" and replaces them with the words "City Manager or
Designee." As you are aware, the responsibility for animal control
now resides with the Police Department. Utilizing the wording City
Manager or Designee will ensure that the ordinance always accurately
reflects the City's organizational structure.
The second change being proposed is to add the words, "in Story
County" at the end of the first sentence of the second paragraph
of Section 3.10. This change will make the ordinance consistent
with the City's current practice of requiring that the confinement
of animals when mandated by this ordinance occurs within Story
County. The purpose of this requirement is to ensure that the
confinement of animals who have bitten persons or are suspected
of having rabies occurs in a timely manner.
