HomeMy WebLinkAboutA010 - memo from Mayor, March 29, 1983 PLSC
TO : Council Members 0
FROM : Mayor Goodl and-4(
DATE : March 29, 1983
SUBJECT : Noise Ordinance
1. I remain convinced in my own mind, for what that is worth, that no
ordinance is going to adequately solve the problem of noise no matter
where we measure or what decibel we use.
2. Seeing that there is some aversion to the use of the word "communica-
tion", I am willing to drop that overused term. I do feel that the
long term best solution will be "neighbors talking to each other"
whether permanent residents or temporary residents, especially in a
community like Ames. If we can't do it here what do we expect to ac-
complish with international relations.
3. I will veto the change in the ordinance because of the place at which
the nuisance is measured. I believe that the purpose of the Noise
Ordinance is to alleviate a nuisance. If that is the case, then it
ought to be measured from the place at which it is in fact a nuisance.
4. End of memo.
There was a thing about noise-
It was not just the girls and the boys
They called the police,
Who crawled thru the leaves
Where to measure they couldn't make a choice!
