COUNCIL ACTION FORM _ 1 Ct Oil F-V m
/O: 01-04-83 )
SUBJECT: Parking Regulations on Oak Avenue
BACKGROUND:
Section 18.23(1) of the Ames Municipal Code establishes alternate side parking
along Oak Avenue from the south line of Second Street south a distance of 188
feet between the hours of 8 a.m, and 5 p.m. Recently representatives of St.
Cecilia School and other concerned residents in the area along Oak Street
protested the alternate side parking and requested that a change be made
eliminating alternate side parking and prohibiting parking on the east side
of Oak between Lincoln Way and Second Street, except for an area to be
designated as a bus loading zone.
The City staff has reviewed this request and does not have any objections to
the aforementioned change.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Direct the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance that would prohibit
parking on the east side of Oak Avenue between Lincoln Way and Second
Street except for the area designated as a bus loading zone.
2. Reject the request and direct the City staff to continue to enforce the
existing parking code as written.
MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is the recommendation of the City Manager that an ordinance be prepared that
will prohibit parking on the east side of Oak Avenue between Lincoln Way and
Second Street except for the designated bus loading zone.
