HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Council Action Form, January 26, 1982 / COUNCIL ACTION FORM NO: January 26, 1982 SUBJECT: Street Name Changes BACKGROUND: Occasionally, minor items come up which need attention to maintain an order. The following are such items. The first is the suffix for a street named "Harris." The final plat of Dwight Harris Subdivision contains the name "Harris Avenue." In the overall scheme of things, avenues run north/south and streets run east/west. Approval of a final plat fixes all street names. Therefore, in this instance, an official change from Harris "Avenue" to Harris "Street" must be done by ordinance. This change would only affect one existing house, 4207 Harris. The second is a little more detailed than the first. Spencer's First Industrial Subdivision contains a street named "Ford Street" which runs east from Dayton Road and turns south to intersect with East Lincoln Way. There needs to be some different designation for the north/south segment of the street. This is the street that eventually will cross Lincoln Way and continue southward to meet with Southeast 16th Street. There are three existing buildings on the north/south segment north of Lincoln Way. It is proposed to rename this street "Bell Avenue." ALTERNATIVES: 1. To make no changes. 2. To rename the north/south segment Ford "Avenue." However, this street would eventually span a distance of 14 miles and there would still be confusion with two "Fords." MANAGER'S RECOMMENDED ACTION: To make the changes as proposed and direct the City Attorney to draft an ordinance.
