AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING AN AREA OF AMES, IOWA AS A
REVITALIZATION AREA WHICH SHALL BE KNOWN AS URBAN
REVITALIZATION PLAN AREA NO. 2
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 404, Code of Iowa 1981, the
governing body of a city may, by ordinance, designate an area of the city as
a revitalization area upon the completion of procedures in the law; and,
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 404, Code of Iowa the City
Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, has, by Resolution No. 81-317 enacted
September 22, 1981, determined, for an area within the city, described
generally as the Campus Town Business District (See attached map. ) , as
follows:
A. That the said area meets the criteria of Section 404.1 Code of Iowa,
1981.
B. That the redevelopment of the said area is necessary in the interest
of the public health, safety or welfare of the residents of the City of Ames,
Iowa; and,
WHEREAS, pursuant to the requirement of Sec. 404.2(2) Code of Iowa, the city
staff prepared a proposed plan for said Revitalization Area, filed a copy
thereof with the City Development Board by the fourteenth day before the
first scheduled public hearing, and mailed notice thereof to all owners of
record of property within said Revitalization Area at least 30 days prior to
the scheduled hearing; and,
WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 404, the Code, a public
hearing on the said proposed plan has been held; and,
WHEREAS, the said revitalization plan for the area has been adopted by Ames
City Council Resolution No. 81-372 enacted on November 24, 1981;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa:
Section One. That in accordance with Chapter 404, Code of Iowa, and in
consideration of the recitations set out in the preamble hereof, the area
formed by contiguous real estate parcels with a metes and bounds description
as follows:
Beginning at the midpoint of the intersection of Lincoln
Way and South Hyland Avenue thence southerly along the
centerline of South Hyland Avenue approximately 290.5
feet; thence easterly approximately 200.1 feet; thence
northerly approximately 129.5 feet; thence easterly
approximately 133 feet to the center line of South
Sheldon Avenue; thence southerly along the centerline of

South Sheldon Avenue to the midpoint of the intersection
of South Sheldon Avenue and Arbor Street; thence easterly
approximately 883.48 feet to the centerline of Chamber-
lain Place; thence southerly along the centerline of
Chamberlain Place approximately 90 feet; thence easterly
approximately 214.75 feet to the centerline of Welch
Avenue; thence southerly along the centerline of Welch
Avenue approximately 45 feet; thence easterly approxi-
mately 223 feet; thence north approximately 165 feet;
thence easterly approximately 221.9 feet to the center-
line of Stanton Avenue; thence northerly along the
centerline of Stanton Avenue approximately 42.5 feet;
thence easterly approximately 362.5 feet; thence
northerly approximately 73.8 feet; thence easterly ap-
proximately 197 feet to the centerline of Lynn Avenue;
thence northerly along the centerline of Lynn Avenue to
the midpoint of the intersection of Lynn Avenue and
Chamberlain Street; thence westerly along the centerline
of Chamberlain Street to the midpoint of the intersection
of Chamberlain Street and Stanton Avenue; thence norther-
ly approximately 79 feet; thence northeasterly approxi-
mately 140 feet; thence northerly approximately 304 feet
to the centerline of Lincoln Way; thence westerly along
the centerline of Lincoln Way to the point of beginning.
shall be and is hereby designated as a revitalization area under Chapter 404
of the Code, to be known as Urban Revitalization Area No. 2.
Section Two. This ordinance shall be in effect after its final passage,
approval and publication as provided by law.
