HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Designating Urban Revitalization Plan Area No. 1 ORDINANCE NO. 2798 AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING AN AREA OF AMES, IOWA AS A REVITALIZATION AREA WHICH SHALL BE KNOWN AS URBAN REVITALIZATION PLAN AREA NO. 1 WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 404, Code of Iowa 1981, the governing body of a city may, by ordinance, designate an area of the city as a revitalization area upon the completion of procedures in the law; and, WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 404, Code of Iowa the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, has, by Resolution No. 81-317 enacted September 22, 1981, determined, for an area within the city, described generally as the Central Business District and portions of the residential area north of the said Central Business District (See attached map. ) , as follows: A. That the said area meets the criteria of Section 404.1 Code of Iowa, 1981. B. That the redevelopment of the said area is necessary in the interest of the public health, safety or welfare of the residents of the City of Ames, Iowa; and, WHEREAS, pursuant to the requirement of Sec. 404.2(2) Code of Iowa, the city staff prepared a proposed plan for said Revitalization Area, filed a copy thereof with the City Development Board by the fourteenth day before the first scheduled public hearing, and mailed notice thereof to all owners of record of property within said Revitalization Area at least 30 days prior to the scheduled hearing; and, WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 404, the Code, a public hearing on the said proposed plan has been held; and, WHEREAS, the said revitalization plan for the area has been adopted by Ames City Counc4;l Resolution No. 81-371 enacted on November 24, 1981; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa: Section One. That in accordance with Chapter 404, Code of Iowa, and in consideration of the recitations set out in the preamble hereof, the area formed by contiguous real estate parcels with a metes and bounds description as follows: Beginning at the midpoint of the intersection of 9th Street and Grand Avenue thence southerly along the centerline of Grand Avenue to the midpoint of the inter- section of 6th Street and Grand Avenue; thence westerly along the centerline of 6th Street to the midpoint of the intersection of 6th Street and Northwestern Avenue; thence southeasterly along the centerline of Northwestern Avenue to the midpoint of the intersection of Main Street and Grand Avenue; thence southerly along the centerline of Grand Avenue to the midpoint of the intersection of Grand Avenue and Lincoln Way; thence easterly along the centerline of Lincoln Way to the midpoint of the inter- section of Lincoln Way and Walnut Avenue; thence souther- ly along the centerline of Walnut Avenue to the midpoint of the intersection of Walnut Avenue and South 2nd Street; thence easterly along the centerline of South 2nd Street to the midpoint of the intersection of South 2nd Street and Kingsbury Avenue; thence northerly along the centerline of Kingsbury Avenue to the midpoint of the intersection of Kingsbury Avenue and Lincoln Way; thence westerly along the centerline of Lincoln Way to the midpoint of the intersection of Lincoln Way and Center Avenue; thence northerly along the centerline of Center Avenue to the midpoint of the intersection of Center Avenue (extended) and the Northwestern Railroad R.O.W. thence westerly along the centerline of the Northwestern Railroad R.O.W. to the midpoint of the intersection of the Northwestern Railroad R.O.W. and Duff Avneue; thence northerly along the centerline of Duff Avenue to the midpoint of the intersection of Duff Avenue and 9th Street; thence westerly along the centerline of 9th Street to the point of beginning. Excluding the following area: The west 176 feet of the block bound on the north by 6th Street, on the east by Burnett Avenue, on the south by 5th Street, and on the west by Clark Avenue. This parcel is commonly known as the Central Junior High East property. shall be and is hereby designated as a revitalization area under Chapter 404 of the Code, to be known as Urban Revitalization Area No. 1. Section Two. This ordinance shall be in effect after its final passage, approval and publication as provided by law.
