AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF
THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SECTIONS
6.4 THROUGH 6.11 AND ENACTING NEW SECTIONS 6.4
THROUGH 6.11 FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVISING THE
BOUNDARY LINES OF WARDS AND VOTING PRECINCTS;
AND SETTING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
BE IT ENACTED by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa:
Section One. That the Municipal Code be amended by repealing
Sections 6`.4 through 6.11 as those Sections heretofore existed and enacting
new Sections 6.4 through 6. 11 to read as follows:
"Sec. 6.4. FIRST WARD DESCRIBED.
The First Ward consists of that part of the City of Ames
which lies east of a line described as beginning at a point where
the south corporate limits, as of January 1, 1982, intersects South
Riverside Drive and thence running north to a point 350' north of
Airport Rd. , thence northwest to the C & NW Railroad, thence
northerly along said C & NW Railroad to Lincolnway, thence west
to Riverside Drive, thence north to Fourth Street, thence east to
Grand Avenue, thence north to the north corporate limits.
Sec. 6.5. SECOND WARD DESCRIBED.
The Second Ward consists of that part of the City of Ames
lying north, east and west of the following described lines: That
part lying north of a line beginning at the intersection of
Lincolnway and Wallace Road and running east to Squaw Creek,
thence north to Fourth Street, thence east to Grand Avenue.
That part lying east of a line beginning at the intersection of
Wallace Road and Lincolnway and running north and west to the
intersection of Union Drive and Wallace Road, thence north along
Wallace Road to Osborn Drive, thence east to Haber Road, thence
north to Thirteenth Street, thence west to Stange Road, thence
north to the S.E. cor. , S.W. 4, N.E. 4 Sec 33-T84N-R24W, thence
west to the center of said Sec. 33, thence north to Twenty-fourth
Street, thence east to the C & NW Railroad, thence northwest
along the C & NW Railroad to the north corporate limits.
That part lying west of a line beginning at the intersection of
N. 4th Street and Grand Avenue and running north to the north
corporate limits.
See. 6.6. THIRD WARD DESCRIBED.
The Third Ward consists of that part of the City of Ames
lying west of the C & NW Railroad and south of Lincolnway as of
January 1, 1982.
Sec. 6.7. FOURTH WARD DESCRIBED.
The Fourth Ward consists of that part of the City of Ames
lying north of Lincolnway and west of the following described line:
Beginning at the intersection of Wallace Road and Lincolnway and
running north and west to the intersection of Union Drive and
Wallace Road, thence north along Wallace Road to Osborn Drive,
thence east to Haber Road, thence north to 13th Street, thence
west to Stange Road, thence north to the S.E. Cor. , S.W.

N.E. , Sec. 33-T84N-R24W, thence west to the S.E. Cor. S.W. 4,
S.W. 4, S.W. 4, N.W. 4 of said Sec. 33, thence north to the
north line of said Sec. 33, thence east to the N. 4 Cor. Sec. 33,
thence north to the center of Sec. 28-T84N-R24W, thence along the
north corporate limits of the city as of January 1, 1982.
See. 6.8. FIRST WARD VOTING PRECINCTS.
The First Ward is divided into voting precincts known and
hereinafter described:
(1) First Ward, Precinct No. 1 consists of that part of the
First Ward lying south o the following described line:
Beginning at the intersection of By Pass Highway 30 and
Dayton Avenue, thence north along Dayton Avenue to
East Lincolnway, thence west along East Lincolnway to
Duff Avenue, thence south along South Duff Avenue to
By Pass Highway 30, thence west along ,By Pass Highway
30 to the C & NW Railroad.
(2) First Ward, Precinct No. 2 consists of that part of the
First Ward lying wi in the following described line:
Beginning at the intersection of Grand Avenue and
Seventh Street, thence east on Seventh Street to Duff
Avenue, thence south on Duff Avenue to By Pass
Highway 30, thence west on By Pass Highway 30 to the
C & NW Railroad, thence northerly along the C & NW
Railroad to Lincolnway, thence west on Lincolnway to
Riverside Drive, thence north to 4th Street, thence east
on 4th Street to Grand Avenue, thence north along
Grand Avenue to Seventh Street.
(3) First Ward, Precinct No. 3 consists of that part of the
First Ward lying east of the following described line:
Beginning at the intersection of South Dayton Avenue
and By Pass Highway 30, thence north along South

Dayton Avenue to East Lincolnway, thence west along
East Lincolnway to Duff Avenue, thence north on Duff
Avenue to Sixteenth Street, thence east on East
Sixteenth Street to Glendale Avenue, thence south on
Glendale Avenue to East Thirteenth Street, thence east
on East Thirteenth Street to a point 250 feet west of
McCormick Avenue, thence north 300 feet, thence east to
Dayton Avenue, thence north on Dayton Avenue to the
north corporate limits.
(4) First Ward, Precinct No. 4 consists of that part of the
kirst Wardlying within the following described line:
Beginning at the intersection of Grand Avenue and
Seventh Street, thence east on Seventh Street to Duff
Avenue, thence north on Duff Avenue to Sixteenth
Street, thence west on Sixteenth Street to Grand
Avenue, thence south on Grand Avenue to Seventh
Street.
(5) First Ward, Precinct No. 5 consists of that part of the
First Ward lying within the following described line:
Beginning at the intersection of Grand Avenue and
Sixteenth Street, thence north on Grand Avenue to
Twentieth Street, thence east on Twentieth Street to a
point 100 feet east of the W. , Cor. Sec. 36-T84N-R24W,
thence south to the north line of the S.W. 4, S.W. 4,
N.W. q, S.W. iq of said Sec. 36, thence east 1,223.5
feet, thence south 88.6 feet, thence south 361 06' W,
505.1 feet, thence south 170 49' east 223.3 feet, thence
south 909.0 feet to East Thirteenth Street, thence west
to Glendale Avenue, thence north to 16th Street, thence
west to Grand Avenue.
(6) First Ward, Precinct No. 6 consists of that part of the
FirstWardlying west o Stage Coach Road, north of
20th Street and east of Grand Avenue.
Sec. 6.9. SECOND WARD VOTING PRECINCTS.
The Second Ward is divided into voting precincts known and
hereinafter described:
(1) Second Ward, Precinct No. 1. Beginning at the inter-
section of 4th Streetand Grand Avenue and running
thence west on 4th Street to Squaw Creek, thence north
along Squaw Creek to Thirteenth Street, thence east to
Northwestern Avenue, thence south to Twelfth Street,
thence east to Grand Avenue, thence south to 4th
Street.

(2) Second Ward, Precinct No. 2. Beginning at the inter-
section of Squaw creek and 13th Street and running
west along 13th Street to a point opposite Hawthorne
Apartments, thence north to Twenty-fourth Street,
thence east to Melrose Avenue, thence south to Hunziker
Drive, thence south to Twentieth Street, thence east to
Grand Avenue, thence south to 12th Street, thence west
to Northwestern Avenue, thence north to 13th Street,
thence west to Squaw Creek.
(3) Second Ward, Precinct No. 3. Beginning at the inter-
section ot Twentie_th___S_fr_eet and Grand Avenue and
running west to Hunziker Drive, thence north to Melrose
Avenue, thence north to Twenty-fourth Street, thence
west to Northwestern Avenue, thence north to Thirtieth
Street, thence north and west along Truman Place to
Hoover Avenue, thence north to a point 390.5 feet north
of Top-O-Hollow Road, thence east to a point 345.9 feet
west of Calhoun Avenue, thence north 134.7 feet, thence
west 429.0 feet to the east line of Lot 9 in the S.W.4
N.EA Sec. 27- T84N-R24W, thence north to the
northeast corner of said Lot 9, thence east to the north-
western corner of Lot 15, Hunter's Subdivision, thence
north to the northwest corner of the S.W.4 N.E.4 N.E.4
of Sec. 27-T84N-R24W, thence east to Grand Avenue,
thence south to Twentieth Street.
(4) Second Ward, Precinct No. 4. Beginning at the inter-
section of Twenty-fourthStreet and Northwestern
Avenue and running west to the C & NW Railroad,
thence north along said C & NW Railroad to a point 390.5
feet north of Bloomington Road, thence east to the west
line of the S.E.4 N.E.4 Sec. 27-T84N-R24W, thence
north to the northwest corner N.E.q N.W.4 of said Sec.
27, thence east to the N.E.4 corner of said Sec. 27,
thence south to a point 664 feet more or less north of
the center of said Sec. 27, thence west 3301, thence
south-southwest 264.1 , thence east to the north-south
centerline of said Sec. 27, thence south to the center of
said Sec. 27, thence south along Hoover Avenue to
Truman Place, thence east and south along Truman Place

the northwest Cor.. of the S.E. 4, N.E. 4 Sec. 33,

T84N, R24W, thence east to Stange Road, thence south
to 13th Street.

(6) Second Ward, Precinct No. 6. Beginning at the inter-
section of Wallace Road and Lincolnway and running
thence north and west along Wallace Road to the inter-
section of Union Drive and Wilson Road, thence north to
6th Street, thence east to Haber Road, thence north to
13th Street, thence east to Squaw Creek, thence south
along Squaw Creek to Lincolnway, thence west to Wallace
Road.
Sec. 6. 10. THIRD WARD VOTING PRECINCTS.
`The Third Ward is divided into voting precincts known and
hereinafter described:
(1) Third Ward, Precinct No. 1. Beginning at the inter-
section of ZumwaltStation Road and the old C & NW
Railroad right-of-way, now known as City of Ames
Nature Trail, and running thence north along the
westerly right-of-way of said nature trail to ByPass 30,
thence west along ByPass 30 to State Avenue, thence
north to Mortenson Road, thence east to Ash Avenue,
thence east and north along Ash Avenue to Graeber
Street, thence east on Graeber and Kildee Streets to
Beach Avenue, thence north to Lincolnway, thence east
to the C & NW Railroad, thence southerly along said C &
NW Railroad to an intersection with Oakwood Road
Extended East, thence along the south corporate limits
existing as of January 1, 1982, except the N.E.4 N.E.4
Sec. 16-T83N-R24W.
(2) Third Ward, Precinct No. 2. Beginning at the inter-
section of Beachvenue and Lincolnway and running
south to Kildee Avenue, thence west on Kildee and
Graeber Streets to Ash Avenue, thence north to
Lincolnway, thence east to Beach Avenue.
(3) Third Ward, Precinct No.3. Beginning at the inter-
section of Knapp street and Ash Avenue and running
west to Hayward Avenue, thence north to Hunt Street,
thence west to Sheldon Avenue, thence north to Arbor
Street, thence west to Hyland Avenue, thence north to
Lincolnway, thence east to Ash Avenue, thence south to
Knapp Street.
(4) Third Ward, Precinct No. 4. Beginning at the inter-
section of Mortenson oad and Hayward Avenue and
running west to State Avenue, thence south to the S.E.

section of State Kvenue and Lincolnway and running
south to Lettie Street, thence west to Wilmoth Avenue,

Franklin Avenue, thence south to Coy Street, thence
west to the north-south centerline of Sec. 8-T83N-R24W,
thence north to the N.E. Cor. S.E.4 N.W.4 of said Sec.

Section Two. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and publication as required by law.
