SUBJECT: Rezoning of Property on S. 16th Street
At the September 22 meeting the City Council passed on first reading an
Ordinance rezoning certain property on S. 16th Street from Al to R5 and
P-C. This rezoning was to permit the establishment of an additional
mobile home park in that area.
Last week this .office received from Wainwright Engineering a draft copy
for the for the environmental assessment for the Ames Municipal Airport.
After a brief staff review for comments, this draft report will be placed
in final form and submitted to the City Council .
Although this is not as yet a completed document or an official one, there
is one suggestion in that document which is important for the City Council
to be aware of.
During Wainwright's assessment of the noise zones in the City, and as a
result of their analysis of the land use plan, the following is included
in their report:
"It is suggested that the incompatible single-family residential units remain
a single-family residential area and that consideration be given to the
purchase of avigational easements as monies become available. In reference
to the mobile home park located to the north of Highway 30, it is suggested
that this area be phased out as a mobile home park and be considered for
future industrial development. The reason for this suggestion is because
of the relative mobility associated with mobile homes, and because of the
ready access available to this location by both real and major highway
development."
It is important for the Council to be aware of that recommendation. To my
knowledge that information was not available to the Planning Department and
was not submitted to the Planning Commission at the time they were deliberating
the rezoning petition for this area.
In a related matter as drafts of this airport plan have been sent to the
staff for preliminary review for accuracy, they have been requested by Pat
Kinney and Pat may be doing a story on what the eventual master plan will
contain which was drawn from these documents.
Should the Council wish additional information, please do not hesitate to
contact this office.
