AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF
• THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA BY REPEALING SECTION
18.2 THEREOF AND ENACTING A NEW SECTION 18.2
FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVISING THE REQUIREMENTS
FOR PROVIDING PARKING SPACES TO HANDICAPPED
PERSONS; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH
CONFLICT, AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa:
Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be
and is hereby amended by repealing Section 18.2 thereof and enacting a new
section 18 4- as follows:
"Sec. 18.2. DESIGNATION OF HANDICAPPED PARKING
(1) All public and private buildings and facilities, temporary
and permanent, used by the general public, which are
not residences and which provide forty-eight or more
parking spaces, shall set aside at least six-tenths of one
percent of the parking spaces provided as handicapped
parking spaces as defined in section 601E. 1 Code of
Iowa.
(2) All public and, private buildings and facilities, temporary
and permanent, which are residences, excluding condo-
miniums as defined in Chapter 499B Code of Iowa, and
which provide twelve or more parking spaces, excluding
extended health care facilities, shall set aside at least
one handicapped parking space as defined in section
601E. 1 Code of Iowa for each individual dwelling unit in
which a handicapped person resides

Section Two. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict, if any.
Section Three. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall
constitute a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than one hundred
(100) dollars or by imprisonment for a period of not more than thirty (30)
days.
Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after the first day of January, 1982.
