To the Members of the Ames City Council:
There are two revisions, which are not part of the :suggestions by
the Ames Rental Housing Code Committee, that I feel would increase
the effectiveness of the Ames Rental ,-lousing Code .
1) Add a definition for Convenience Outlet, to
be inserted as the definition following 13.3.1 ,
Abate .
There seems to be a need for clarification.
2) Add to 13,38.1 , the Owner's or Operator's
responsibility, the responsibility for
installing and supplying a sto;:e or range
and a refrigerator. Also add this respon-
sibility to 13.38.2, as a responsibility to
which may be assumed by someore other than
the Owner or Operator.
In that the KID provisions require these appliances it is important to
place the responsibility for providing such with either the owner or
the occupant . Since there are already sections which prohibit the
instalation and operation of space heating and cooling equipment, by
the occupant, (13.29.3) it seemed most appropriate to place the respon-
sibilities for supplying and installing kitchen appliances on owners .
These concerns were raised at the Dec. 15, 1980 hearing, however, as
I was unable to attend the March S, 1981 meeting, they were not formally
addressed.
Y
A third concern, though probably not one which would be addressed
through the Code, is that the form used by the Rental Housing Inspector,
and his assistants, does not encourage thoroughness . I suggest an
alternative form, such as the one I have enclosed, which is more complete.
Sincerely,
Susan Weiss
