HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Increasing the Mayor's Term of Office From Two Years to Four Years ORDINANCE NO. 2776 -AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE AMES MUNICIPAL. CODE AND THE CITY OF AMES CHARTER ORDINANCE WITH RESPECT TO THE TERM OF OFFICE FOR MAYOR BEING CHANGED FROM TWO YEARS TO FOUR YEARS BY REPEALING SECTION 6 OF ORDINANCE NO. 2512 AND ENACTING A NEW SECTION 6 THEREOF; AND, TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAI. CODE. OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA BY REPEALING SUBSECTION 1 .8(6) AND ENACTING A NEW SUBSECTION 1 .8(6); AND, ESTAB- LISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, following a valid petition and calling of an election, the voters in a special election thereon approved changing the term of office for Mayor of the City of Ames from two years to four years all as provided in Section 376.2 The Code; and, WHEREAS, it is necessary to complement said change by appropriate amendments to the City Charter ordinance required by Sec. 372. 1 The Code and to the Ames Municipal Code; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa: Section One. The Ames City Charter Ordinance, Ordinance Number 2512 enacted on July 1, 1975 shall be and is hereby amended by repealing Section 6 thereof as said section has existed heretofore, and enacting a new Section 6 to read as follows: "Term of Ma or. The Mayor is elected for a term of four 4 years. " Section Two. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, shall be and is hereby amended by repealing subsection 1 .8(6) thereof as said subsection has existed heretofore and enacting a new subsection 1 .8(6) to read as follows: "Term of Mayor. The Mayor, is elected for a term of four 4 years." Section Three. The City Clerk shall keep a copy of this ordinance on file with the City Charter ordinance; and, shall file a copy with the Secretary of State for the State of Iowa. Section Four.
