1 . Legal Description
The East Seventy-sevdn (77 ) feet of the following described
premises to-wit : Commencing at the Northwest Corner of Sublot
one (1 ) of Lot Three (3) in the West Half of the Southwest Quarter
of Section Four (4) in Township Eighty-three '83 ) North, Range
Twenty-four (24) Nest of the 5th P.M. , Iowa, thence South One
Hundred Forty-eight (14S) feet , Thence East Three Hundred Twenty
(320 ) feet , thence North One Hundred Forty-eight (148 ) feet ,
thence Nest Three Hundred Twenty (320) feet to the place of
beginning , now included in and a part of the City of Ames .
5. Reasons for requesting this change
A. The use of this structure for multiple housing antedates
the zoning ordinance. It was obviously mis-classified when
zoning was established .
B. This is the we9ternmost house on this block. All houses to
the east are classifieO as R2. Thus, this is the only house in
this block classified as R 1 .
C. Across the street , the 112 designation extends one city block
further to the west which is away from the campus.
D. Changing to 112 will not result in a greater population
density or heavier use of facilities in this area. ('fhe
off-street parking is the finest in the immediate area . )
E. Iowa State University is chronically short of housing . This
structure , close to the campus, provides excellent student
housing . (With the energy crunch, close-in housing becomes more
important. )
F. Of the 21 properties within 200 feet of 2921 Oakland ,
ih are zoned as R2.
