HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Prohibiting Parking in Front Yards of Residences 0344bqq ORDINANCE NO. 2736 L'- \ 1 STOAY COUNRECTY, IOWA i FILED FOR ORD AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE ✓ OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA BY ADDING 71979 P°M' THERETO A NEW SECTION TO BE NUMBERED SECTION 24-1023 FOR THE PURPOSE OF S�9SAN1•POn 'RePAfdeoea ► PROHIBITING THE PARKING OF MOTOR VEHICLES �„� IN THE FRONT YARDS OF RESIDENCES; PROVID- ING A PENALTY; REPEALING ANY AND ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT, IF ANY; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, it is found that the practice of parking motor vehicles in the front yards of residential structures contri- butes to the deterioration of public sidewalks and street appurtenances, and WHEREAS, the practice of parking motor vehicles in the front yards tends to lead to the destruction of lawns, important to the appearance and property values of a neighborhood. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council for the City of Ames, Iowa: Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa shall be and is hereby amended by enacting a new section to be numbered Section 24-1023, said new section to provide as follows : "Sec. 24-1023 . Front Yard Parking Prohibited. The parking of motor vehicles in the front yards of residential structures in residentially zoned areas is prohibited. Any person who parks a motor vehicle in the front yard of a residential structure shall be in violation of this section, provided, however, the aforesaid prohibi- tion shall not apply to the parking of motor vehicles on driveways constructed pursuant to a properly issued building/ zoning permit of the City of Ames . " Section Two. Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a simple misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed one hundred dollars ( $100 ) or by imprisonment for a period not to exceed thirty (30 ) days . Section Three. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict if any. Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as requir- ed by law. Passed this 3O�h day of Octob^� 1979 .
