HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Prohibiting Turns on Red at Certain Intersections r r ORDINANCE NO. 2733 AN ORDINANCE TO AMI END THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES , IOWA BY REPEALING SECTION 33-5005 . 1 THEREOF AND ENACTING A NEW SECTION 33-5005 . 1 FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROHIBITING "TURNS ON RED" AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS ; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING A PENALTY; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE BE IT ENACTED, by the City Council for the City of Ames , Iowa: Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa shall be and is hereby amended by repealing section 33-5005 . 1 thereof as said section has existed heretofore and enacting a new section 33-5005 . 1 , said new section to read as follows : "Sec . 33-5005 . 1. Intersections where turns on red prohibited. 1 . It is unlawful for the driver of any vehicle approaching the .following intersections from the stated direction to make a turn at such inter- section when facing; a steady red traffic-control signal if a sign stating "no turn on red" is posted: a. Northbound vehicles at the intersection of Lincoln Way and Elwood Drive. b. Northbound vehicles at the intersection of Lincoln Way and Franklin Avenue. C. Northbound vehicles at the intersection of Lincoln Way and Beedle Drive. d. Northbound and southbound vehicles at the intersection of Lincoln Way and !Welch Avenue. e. Southbound vehicles at the intersection of Lincoln ?play and Knoll Road. f. Southbound and westbound vehicles at the intersection of Main Street and Kellogg Avenue. g. Eastbound vehicles at the intersection of Sixth Street and Grand Avenue. h. Eastbound vehicles at the intersection of Thirtieth Street and Grand Avenue. i. Westbound vehicles at the intersection of Ninth Street and Grand Avenue. j . Eastbound vehicles at the intersection of Lincoln ?lay and Maple Street. 2 . The above stated prohibition may be limited to certain hours during the day by so stating on the signs posted as required above. " f 2 - Section Two. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict if any. Section Three. Violations of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a simple misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100) or by imprisonment for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days . Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as required by law. Passed this 2nd day of October 1979 .
