AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE
OF THE CITY OF AMES , IOWA BY ENACTING A
SUBSECTION (C) TO SECTION 7-3005 FOR THE
PURPOSE OF REGULATING BICYCLE TRAFFIC ON
BICYCLE PATHS, REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR
PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH TO
THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT IF ANY; PROVIDING
A PENALTY; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of
Ames, Iowa shall be and is hereby amended by enacting a
subsection (c) to Section 7-3005, said new section to read
as follows:
"Sec. 7-3005 (c)
Persons riding bicycles upon a bicycle path not
affixed to a roadway shall yield the
right-of-way to all vehicular traffic travelling
on the public roadways which intersect with the
bicycle path. Persons riding bicycles upon a
bicycle path which is a d6signated lane or part
of a roadway shall obey the instructions of official
traffic-control signals, signs, and other control
devices applicable to vehicles.
Section Two. All ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such
conflict.
Section Three . Violation of the provisions of this
ordinance shall constitute a simple misdemeanor punishable by
a fine not to exceed $100 or by imprisonment for a period not
to exceed 30 days .
Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full
force and effect from and after its passage and publication
as required by law.
