AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE
OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA BY REPEALING
SECTIONS 24-1001, 24-1004 , 24-1005 and
24-1006 (a) AND REPLACING THEM WITH NEW
SECTIONS 24-1001, 24-1004 , 24-1005 and
24-1006 (a) FOR THE PURPOSE OF MAKING
CERTAIN SIMPLE MISDEMEANORS DEFINED AND
KNOWN UNDER THE 1979 CODE OF IOWA
OFFENSES AGAINST THE CITY OF AT4ES; RE-
PEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT;
PROVIDING A PENALTY AND ESTABLISHING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE
BE IT ENACTED by the City Council for the City
of Ames, Iowa:
Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of
Ames, Iowa shall be and hereby is amended by repealing
Section 24-1001, 24-1004 , 24-1005 and 24-1006 (a) as said
sections have existed heretofore.
Section Two. The Municipal Code of the City of
Ames , Iowa is further amended by enacting new sections 24-1001,
24-1004 , 24-1005 and 24-1006 (a) to read as follows:
"Sec. 24-1001 Certain Offenses to be
Offenses Against the City
Of Ames
Certain simple misdemanors as defined and
known under the 1979 Code of Iowa are here-
by declared and made to be offenses against
the City of Ames, Iowa when committed in
the City of Ames , Iowa, to wit:
(a) Assault
(b) Harassment
(c) Theft in the Fifth Degree
(d) Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree
(e) Trespass
(f) Cruelty to Animals
(g) Harassment of Public Officers and Employees
(h) False Reports to Law Enforcement Authorities
(i) Refusing to Assist an Officer
(j) Furnishing Intoxicants to Inmates
(k) Use of False Process or Records
(1) Unlawful Assembly
(m) Failure to Disburse
(n) Disorderly Conduct
(o) Interference with Official Acts

Sec. 24-1004 Weapons Violations
Certain simple misdemeanors as defined and
known under the 1979 Code of Iowa relative
to the carrying , purchase and sale of
certain weapons are hereby declared and
made to be offenses against the City of
Ames , Iowa when committed within the City
of Ames , Iowa, to wit:
(a) Failure to carry permit to carry weapons
(b) Failure to report and record sales of
pistols and revolvers
(c) Purchase of a pistol or revolver without
a valid permit
(d) Sale of a pistol or revolver to one not
in possession of a valid permit
Sec. 24-1005 Infringement of Civil Rights
Certain simple misdemeanors as defined and
known under the 1979 Code of Iowa are hereby
declared and made to be offenses against the
City of Ames , Iowa when committed in the City
of Ames, Iowa, to wit:
(a) A religious test in violation of Sec-
tion 4 , Article I of the Constitution
of Iowa
(b) Discrimination in employment of indi-
viduals because of race, religion,
color, national origin or ancestry
(c) Discrimination by labor union or
organization as to membership therein
because of race, religion, color,
national origin or ancestry.
Sec. 24-1006 (a) Fireworks, Use Regulated
The use or exploding of "fireworks" , as
that term is defined by the 1979 Code of
Iowa, is prohibited except when done in
accordance with a permit authorized by
the City Council. "
Section Three. All ordinances or parts or ordinances
in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of such conflict.
Section Four. Violation of this ordinance shall be
punishable as a simple misdemeanor.

Section Five. This ordinance shall be in full
force and effect from and after its passage and publication
as required by law.
Passed this 24th day of July 1979 .
