City Attorney CITY OF AMISS,IOWA February 21, 1979 FES t Z 1979 Honorable Lee Fellinger , Mayor And Members of the City Council Of The City of Ames, Iowa In Re: Ordinance to Repeal the Fee Schedule Established In Section 19-2002 (e) of the Municipal Code And Provide for Establishment of Fee Schedule Annually By Resolution Dear Mayor Fellinger and Council Members : As you know, we have been consistently repealing fee schedules established by ordinance in the Municipal Code and substituting a policy of establishing fees from time to time by resolution. This policy was first recommended by me in my memorandum to the City Council of October 13 , 1978 pertaining to revision of the Municipal Code generally. This policy should also be applied to the rental housing code. I have discussed this matter with the housing inspector and he agrees that on the basis of actual administrative and cost experience, more reasonable fee schedules than that provided for in the ordinance can be developed, and ought to be developed annually. This schedule of fees will , of course, pertain not only to the inspections, enforcement and administrative efforts connected with the rental housing ordinance, but also to those inspection, enforcement and administrative costs mandated by the provisions of chapter 413 of the Code of Iowa, the so- called State Housing Law. Respectfully submitted, John R. Klaus City Attorney Encl. Combining Education and Industry with Hospitality
