AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE
OF THE CITY OF AMES , IOWA BY REPEALING
CHAPTER 3 THEREOF PERTAINING TO ALCOHOLIC
BEVERAGES CONSISTING OF SECTION 3-1001
THROUGH AND INCLUDING SECTION 3-3006 AND
ENACTING NEW SECTIONS 3-1001 AND SECTION
3-1002 FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONFOR-II.ING TO
AND RELYING UPON THE LAWS AND REGULATIONS
OF THE STATE OF IOWA PERTAINING TO THE
LICENSING AND REGULATION OF THE SALE AND
DISTRIBUTION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES , BEER
AND WINE; PROVIDING A PENALTY; REPEALING
ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN
CONFLICT HEREWITH TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH
CONFLICT AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE
BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of the City of
TJnes, Iowa :
Section One. The Municipal Code of the City of
Ames , Iowa shall be and is hereby amended by repealing
chapter 3 thereof consisting of section 3-1001 through
section 3-3006 pertaining to alcoholic beverages .
Section Two . The Municipal Code of the City of
Ashes, Iowa shall be and is hereby further amended by enacting
new sections 3-1001 and 3-1002 , said new sections to read
as follows :
"Sec . 3-1001 . Minors Prohibited on Premises
It is unlawful for a person of less than legal
age for purchase of alcoholic beverages , beer
or wine to be in, or for any person knowingly
to permit a person of less than legal age for
purchase of alcoholic beverages , beer or wine,
to be in a place where beer, wine or alcoholic
beverages are sold unless at least fifty (50)
percent of the business conducted at said place
is other than the sale of beer, wine or alcoholic
beverages .
The provisions of this section shall not apply to
any person of less than legal age for the purchase
of alcoholic beverages , beer or wine, who :
a. is accompanied by a parent, guardian or spouse
who is of said legal age.
b. is a regular employee of the holder of a valid
beer and liquor control commission license with
respect to the premises .

c. is a participant in a special event sponsored
by a non-profit organization and authorized
by the City Council . "
"Sec . 3-1002 . Consumption in Public Places -
Intoxication
It is unlawful for any person to use or consume al-
coholic beverages., wine or beer upon the public
streets or highways of the City of Ames , or consume
any alcoholic beverage in any public place, except
premises covered by a valid liquor control license,
and no person shall be intoxicated nor simulate
intoxication in a public place. "
Section Three. Violation of the provisions of this
ordinance shall constitute a misdemeanor punishable by a fine
not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100) or by imprisonment
for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days.
Section Four. All ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such
conflict if any.
Section Five. This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage and publication as
required by law.
