BE IT ENACTED by the City Council of the City of Ames , Iowa : Section - One . The Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa shall be and is hereby amended by repealing sections 24-1001 , 24-10o4 , 24-1005 , 24-lo06 , 24-1o06 .1 , 24-1007 , 24-1007 . 1 , 24-1008 , 24-loll , 24-1015 , 24-1016 , 24-1017 , 24-1018 , 24-1019 , 24-1021 , 24-1023 , 24-1024 , 24-1025 , 24-1026 , 24-1027 , 24-1028 , 24-1029 , 24-1030 , 24-1031 , 24-1032 , 24-1033 , 24-1034 , 24-1034 .1 , 24-1035 , 24-1036 , 24-1037 , 24-104o, 24-1041 , 24-1041 . 1 , 24-lo43 , 24-1044 , 24-lo44 .1 24-1045 , 24-1046 , 24-1o47 , 24-1048 , 24-1o49 , 24-1050, 24-1051 , 24-1052 , 24-1053 , 24-1054 , 24-1056 , 24-1058 , 24-1059 , 24-1060 , 24-lo61 , 24-lo62 , 24-1063 , 24-1064 , 24-1065 , 24-lo66 , 24-1o67 , 24-1068 and 5-1001 as said sections have heretofore existed. Section Two . The Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa shall be and is hereby further amended by enacting new sections 24-1001 , 24-1004 , and 24-1005 , said new sections to read as follows : "Sec . 24-1001 . Offenses ; Certain public offenses to be offenses against the City . Certain public offenses as defined and known under the penal statutes and law of the state of Iowa are hereby declared and made to be offenses against the City of Ames when committed in the City of Ames , to wit : a. assault b . harassment '. C . theft in the fifth degree d. criminal mischief in the fourth degree e . criminal trespass f . cruelty to animals g . harassment of public officers. and employees h . false reports to law enforcement authorities -2- i . refusing to assist officer j . furnishing intoxicants to inmates k . use of false process or records 1 . unlawful assembly M. failure to disburse n . disorderly conduct Sec . 24-1004 . Weapons Violations . Certain public offenses as defined and known under the penal statutes and law of the state of Iowa relative to the carrying, purchase and sale of certain weapons are hereby de- clared and made to be offenses against the City of Ames when committed within the City of Ames , to wit : a. failure to carry permit to carry weapons b . failure to report and record sales of pistols and revolvers C . purchase of a pistol or revolver with- out a valid permit d . sale of a pistol or revolver to one not in possession of a valid permit Sec . 24-1005 . Infringement of Civil Rights . Certain public offenses as defined and known under the penal statutes and law of the state of Iowa relative to infringement of civil rights are hereby declared and made to be offenses against the City of Ames when com- mitted in the City of Ames , to wit : a. a religious test in violation of Sec . 4 , Article I of the constitution of Iowa b . discrimination in employment of in- dividuals because of race , religion , color , national origin or ancestry C . Discrimination by labor union or or- ganization as to membership therein because of race , religion, color , national origin or ancestry Sec . 24-1006 . Fireworks , Use Regulated. The use or exploding of "fireworks " as that term is defined by the laws of the State of Iowa, is prohibited except when done in accordance with a permit authorized by the City Council . The City Council for the City of Ames may, upon receipt of a written application , permit the display and exploding of fireworks by any group or organization if the fireworks will be handled by a competent operator . -3- However , nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit any resident , dealer, manufacturer or jobber from selling such fireworks if the same are to be shipped out of state ; or the sale or use of blank cartridges for a show or the theater , or for signal purpose~, in athletic or sport- ing events or by railroads or trucks , for signal purposes , or by a recognized mili- tary organization ; and provided further that nothing in this section shall apply to any substance or composition prepared and sold for medicinal or fumigation purposes . " Section Three . 'Violation of the provisions of this ordinance shall constitute a simple misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $100 or by imprisonment for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days . Section Four . Any and all ordinances in the City of Ames in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict if any . Section Five . This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as re- quired by law.
