AN ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH A WATER USE
POLICY DURING A TIME OF WATER SHORTAGE '
BY _AMENDING THE .MUNICIPAL : CODE OF THE
CITY OF AMES , IOWA TO REPEAL .THE ZU3R
BEAUTIFICATION SEWER RATE; ES,TABLISHl 0 :}
A PREMIUM RATE FOR WATER CONSUMED IN
EXCESS OF A BASE QUA TITY; PROHIBITING
CERTAIN USES OF WATER ; REPEALING ;ALL .
ORDINANCES OR PARTS F ORDINANCES IN
CONFLICT HEREWITH TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH
CONFLICT IF ANY ; PROVIDING A- PENALTY
AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS the City ,of kmes , Iowa has been afflicted
with. a severe` and protracted drought ; , and,
WHEREAS the aquifer which supplies the stater to
the Ames municipal ,water utility has become significantly
and seriously depleted; and ,
WHEREAS there is .not deemed to be a sufficient
supply of water to meet all customary and usual demand in- .
-definitely ; and,
WHEREAS it is determined to be necessary to the
public health ,_ safety and general 'welfare to enact and: en-
force ,.measure:s to produce a uni form and equitable- curtail-
ment of water consumption.
NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT ORDAINED and enacted - >y the
City Council for the City of A.i4e,s , Iowa:
Section One . Summer Beautification Rate Eep.ealed
The summer beautification rate for sanitary sewer
service as enacted by ord trance No. 2367 on March
23 , 19719 and codified as �,sect,i;on` 36-7004 of the: ,.
Municipal Code of the ;Cit of. Ames ,;. Iowa shall be .
s,nd' is . hereby repealed.
Section Two. Premium -Rat for .Inauste Consump.`tion
In addition to the water rates enacted by ord'inanee
N.o. 2461 on Nolve.%ber 18, V973 and found codified as
sections' 36-3002 and 36-3 ` O3.,o.f the Municipal Code
of the City of Ames , all customers of the Amen
municipal water utility sliall , during May through '
October , pay t : premium rate of .7 . 5 'cents per cubi c

Section Three'. The CityManager is authorized , for

Section Five All ordinances or parts of ordinanceo
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the ex-,
tent of such conflict , specifically , Ames City
ordinance No. 2612 and 2615 enacted' *Ti,y ' 19th and
August 2nd, 1977 •
Section Six. Violation hereof shall constitute a
misdemeanor punishable as aforesaid.
Section Seven. This ordinance shall be in full force, _
and effect , for water consumed on and after July 25 ,
1977 , from and after its passage and publication as
required by law,,
