AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE
OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA BY ENACTING NEW
SECTIONS 33-13061 ANI) 33-13014 FOR THE
PURPOSE OF PROVIDING SPECIAL PARKING
SPACES FOR HANDICAPPED PERSONS ; REPEALING
ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES
IN CONFLICT HEREWITH TO THE EXTENT OF
SUCH CONFLICT; PROVIDING A PENALTY; AND
ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE .
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council for the City of
Ames , Iowa that:
Section One . The Municipal Code of the City of
Ames , Iowa be and the same is hereby amended by adding new
sections 33-13061 and 33-13014 to read as follows :
"Sec. 33-13061 Parking only for the handicapped persons .
The City Manager is authorized to designate parking
spaces on the public streets and highways and in
municipal parking lots for use only by motor vehicles
transporting handicapped persons . No person shall
park a motor vehicle in any parking space so desig-
nated unless there is displayed in such vehicle , in
a manner visible from outride such vehicle, the
special identification device available to handi-
capped persons from the Iowa Department of Trans-
portation.
Sec. 33-13014 Parking only for handicapped persons
on private property.
The owner, operator, or person in charge of private
property within the City of Ames , Iowa may designate
certain areas of the property under his control as
parking space for use only by motor vehicles trans-
porting handicapped persons and shall indicate such
parking spaces by signs containing the international
symbol for parking only for handicapped persons
and/or the words "Parking for Handicapped Persons
Only" , or "Handicapped Parking Only" , or some reason-
ably close variation of these phrases . No person
shall park a motor vehicle in any parking space so
designated, unless there :is displayed in such vehicle,
in a manner visible from outside such vehicle, the
special identification device available to handi-
capped persons from the Iowa Department of Transpor-
tation.
Section Two. All ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of such conflict.
Section Three. Violation of this ordinance shall
be a misdemeanor.
Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from the date of its passage and publication as
required by law.
