S. 30 and Beach Avenue. Honorable Mayor and Members of City Council: The Planning and Zoning Commission during its meeting of March 12, 1976, considered the above petition for the above location and took the follow- ing action: A motion was made and approved to recommend approval of C-5 zoning on the eastern 30.52 acres for the Gateway Center hotel project as applied for. The motion made by Nichol, seconded by Riis, was voted on as follows: AYES: Cholvin, Thurston, Nichol, Riis, Shank, Shaughnessy. NAYS: None. ABSENT: Lex. A motion was made and approved to recommend that permitted uses for the Gateway Center hotel project shall be eating places, drinking places, newspaper shops, cigar and cigarette shops, hotels and motels, with all other uses being impermissible. The motion made by Cholvin, seconded by Riis, was voted on as follows: AYES: Cholvin, Thurston, Nichol, Riis, Shank, ,,Shaughnessy. NAYS: None. ABSENT: Lex. Submitted as per requirement of the C-5 ordinance is a list of impermissible uses as relates to the subject rezoning. Those uses permitted are denoted with an asterisk---all others are impermissible. *Combining Education and Industry with Hospitality Honorable Mayor and Members of City Council March'18, 1976 Page Two. As relates to the development proposal itself and the petitioner's quantitative and qualitative fulfillment of planning requirements of the ordinance, the Planning and Zoning Commission took the following action: A motion was made and approved to recommend approval of the planning requirements as submitted. The motion made by Nichol, seconded by Shaughnessy, was voted on as follows: AYES: Shank, Shaughnessy, Nichol, Cholvin, Thurston. NAYS: None. ABSTENTIONS: Riis. ABSENT: Lex. The plans, as recommended for approval, were those provided members of City Council when the Planning and Zoning Commission made recommendation to City Council that a request for C-2 be denied and that the development proposal be considered under C-5. Members of City Council will, however, be provided, prior to public hearing, with a new and complete set of materials as approved by the Commission. As is evident by the Planning and Zoning Commission's motions, there is good support for this development, even though there is some minority concern about the building being located to far to the west.
