ORDINANCE NO. 2540
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES,
IOWA, BY REPEALING SECTION 33-13133 AND 33-13134 AS SAID SECTIONS
HAVE HERETOFORE EXISTED AND ENACTING NEW SECTIONS 33-13133 AND
33-13134; AND ADOPTING NEW SECTIONS 33-13135 AND 33-13136; FOR
THE PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHING AND REGULATING MUNICIPAL PARKING LOTS;
REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT AND ESTABLISHING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ENACTED by the City Council for the City of Ames ,
Iowa, that:
Section One . That the Municipal Code of the City of
Ames , Iowa, be and the same is hereby amended by repealing
Section 33-13133 and 33-13134 as said sections have heretofore
existed and enacting new Sections 33-13133 and 33-13134 to read
as follows :
Sec . 33-13133 . Municipal parking lots .
The following parking areas are hereby
declared to be municipally owned restricted
parking lots :
a. That area used for parking south and
abutting on Main Street and west of
Clark Avenue extending west to the east
right-of-way line of Grand Avenue, is
hereby designated as a municipal depot
parking lot.
b. That area used for parking which is
west of and abutting on Douglas Avenue
and which extends south from the north
line of Twelfth Street extended is
hereby designated as a municipal
hospital parking lot.
C . Those areas used for parking located
within the area bounded by Douglas
Avenue on the west, Duff Avenue on
the east, Eleventh Street on the south,
and Twelfth Street extended on the
north are hereby designated as
municipal hospital parking lots .
d. That area used for parking which is
bounded by Sixth Street on the south
and Douglas Avenue on the east is
hereby designated as a municipal
library parking lot.
e. Those two areas used for parking in
the block bounded by Fifth Street on
the south and Kellogg Avenue on the
west are hereby designated Kellogg
Avenue municipal parking lots .
f. That area used for parking which is
located east of Clark Avenue and west
of Duff Avenue and bounded by the
Chicago and Northwestern railroad
tracks on the south is hereby
designated the municipal CBD parking
lots.

g. That area used for parking which is
bounded by Stanton Avenue on the west
and Chamberlain Street on the north is
hereby designated as the Chamberlain
Lot No. 2 municipal parking lot.
h. That area used for parking which is
bounded by Chamberlain Street on the
north and Welch Avenue on the west
is hereby designated Chamberlain Lot
No . 1 municipal parking lot.
i. That municipally owned area located
in the block bounded by Welch Avenue
on the east and Hayward Avenue on the
west is hereby designated the Welch
Avenue municipal parking lot.
Sec. 33-13134 . Restrictions .
Parking in the respective municipal parking
lots is restricted as follows :
a. In the depot lot, the duration of parking
in the row of s:oaces closest to the old
depot, between the center driveway and
Clark Avenue, is limited to two (2)
hours and in the first six spaces closest
to the depot west of the center drive,
limited to fifteen (15) minutes . In all
other spaces, except the metered spaces,
the duration of parking is unlimited.
b. In all of the aforesaid municipal parking
lots , there shall be erected from time to
time within the discretion of the city
manager certain signs stating directions,
limitations, and restrictions for the
purpose of facilitating the efficient
movement of traffic and utilization of
said parking lots . Actions contrary to
the direction contained on such signs
shall constitute a violation of this
section.
Section Two. The municipal code is further amended by
enacting new sections to be numbered 33-13135 and 33-13136 , said
sections to read as follows :
Sec. 33-13135 . Reservation of parking spaces
in municipal lots .
A person wishing -to reserve a parking space
in a municipal lot :for his exclusive use
shall make a proposal therefore to the city
manager . The city manager may grant such
request pursuant to such standing policies as
to location and price as the City Council may,
from time to time, adopt by resolution. If
a request is not within the scope of such
standing policies, the person who prL)_poses
a reservation may b--ing the matter to the
City Council for decision. Spaces so reserved
shall be marked by signs stating that the
space is reserved twenty-four (24) hours
per day and that violator's vehicles will
be impounded.

Sec . 33-13136 . Violation of reserved
spaces .
No person, shall park in a space reserved
pursuant to Sec. 33-13135 or 33-13164 without
the consent of the person for whom the space
is reserved. Vehicles in violation hereof
may be impounded on order of the chief of
police or his designee until the costs of
towing and storage are paid. The registered
owner of the vehicle shall be held responsible
for such violation.
Section Three . All ordinances and parts of ordinances
in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such
conflict.
Section Four. This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage and publication as required
by law.
