HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Related to Election and Term of Hospital Trustees ` a r t ORDINANCE NO. 2525 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA BY REPEALING SECTIONS 18-1002 AND 18-1007 THEREOF AND ENACTING NEW SECTIONS 18-1002 AND 18-1007 FOR THE PURPOSE OF CORRECTING THE LANGUAGE THEREOF SO AS TO AVOID A POSSIBLE AMBIGUITY IN THE MATTER OF ELECTING HOSPITAL TRUSTEES; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE . BE IT ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA: Section 1. That the Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa, be and the same is hereby amended by repealing Sections 18-1002 and 18-1007 thereof as said sections have heretofore existed and enacting new Sections 18-1002 and 18-1007 to read as follows: Sec. 18-1002 . Election of members, term of office. The Ames Municipal Hospital Board of Trustees shall consist of three (3) persons elected in the next and succeeding regular city election, whose term of office shall be six (6) years ; provided, however, that at the first election three ( 3) shall be elected and hold their office respectively for two (2) , four (4) and six (6) years and they shall, by lot, determine their respective terms . Sec. 18-1007 . Alteration and discontinuance. The number of trustees may, by ordinance, be increased to five (5) . The first additional members to be appointed by the mayor with approval of the city council. One (1) such additional member to serve until the next regular city election and the other additional member until the second succeeding regular city election. Thereafter, the terms of office of such additional members shall be six (6) years . The council may discontinue the Board of Trustees by adopting a resolution proposing such action and publishing notice as required by law of the resolution and of a date, time and place of public hearing on the proposal and may discontinue the Board of Trustees by ordinance or amendment not sooner than thirty (30) days following the hearing. Section 2 . All ord=_nances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict. Section 3.
