ORDINANCE NO. 2506 AN ORDINANCE MIENDI14G THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES , IOWA, BY ADDING TO ARTICLE I OF CHAPTER 8 NEW SECTIONS TO BE NUMBERED 8-1015 AND 8-1016 FOR THE PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHING INSULATION AND VAPOR BARRIER REQUIREMENTS FOR NEW BUILDINGS OR ADDITIONS TO EXISTING BUILDINGS WHICH COME WITHIN THE SCOPE OF GROUP "H" AND "I" OCCUPANCIES OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE ; AND, ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE . BE IT ENACTED by the City Council for the City of Ames , Iowa: Section 1. That Article I of Chapter 8 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto new Sections 8-1015 and 8-1016 to read as follows : Sec . 8-1015 . Insulation. Exterior walls of all new buildings and additions to existing buildings which are classed by the Uniform Building Code in groups "H" and "I" occupancies shall have exterior walls insulated to a minimum value of R-13; and, shall have the upper most ceilings or roofs of any heated living area insulated to a minimum value of R-19 . Sec . 8-1016 . Vapor Barrier. Exterior walls of all new buildings and additions to existing buildings classed by the Uniform Building Code in groups "H" and "I" occupancies shall have such walls covered with a vapor barrier. The vapor barrier material shall have a minimum thickness of two (2) mills and shall be installed on the warm side of all living areas . Section 2 .
