HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amending Chapter 36 of Municipal Code; Relating to Utility Bill Delinquency f• ' ORDINANCE NO. 2481 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 36 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, REPEALING SECTIONS 36-3006, 36-7007 and 36-8008; ESTABLISHING NEW SECTIONS TO BE NUMBERED 36-3006 , 36-7007 and 36-8008 EXTENDING THE TIME BEFORE WHICH UTILITY BILLS BECOME DELIQUENT; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES NOT IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES , IOWA: Section 1 . Sections 36-3006 , 36-7007 and 36-8008 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames as hitherto existing are hereby repealed. Section 2. New sections to be numbered 36-3006 , 36-7007 and 36-8008 are hereby added to the Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa, as follows : Sec. 36-3006 . Schedule of payments . The above net rates apply only when paid as follows : (a) In District No. 1 as established by this chapter on or before the twenty-fifth day of the month, provided however, that if the twenty-fifth day falls upon a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, then the time shall be extended to the next business day . (b) In District No. 2 on or before the fifth day of the month following day of invoice, provided however, that if the fifth day falls upon a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, then the time shall be extended to the next business day. (c) In District No. 3 on or before the fifteenth day of the month, provided however, that if the fifteenth of the month falls upon a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, then their time shall be extended to the next business day. (d) When notso paid the gross rate five percent (50 ) above the net rate shall apply. Sec. 36-7007 . Payment of bills ; penalty for deliquent bills . The service charges, rates and rentals herein established shall be due and payable at the office of the director of finance , within fifteen (15) days from the date of billing thereof and to avoid discrimination and cover the added costs of collecting deliquent bills , bills not paid within fifteen (15) days after being rendered will be increased five percent (50) . Sec. 36-8008. Schedule of payment. The net rates as set forth in the rate schedule apply only when paid as follows : (a) In the District No. 1 as established by this article, on or before the twenty- fifth day of the month, provided however, that if the twenty-fifth day falls upon a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, then the time shall be extended to the next business day. (b) In District No. 2 on or before the fifth day of the month following date of invoice, provided however, that if the fifth day of the month falls upon a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, then the time shall be extended to the next business day. (c) In District No. 3 on or before the fifteenth day of the month, provided however, that if the fifteenth day of the month falls upon a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, then the time shall be extended to the next business day. (d) When a bill is not so paid, the gross rate of five percent (5% ) above the net rate shall apply. All minimum charges are for one month or fractions thereof. Section 3 . All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Section 4. This ordinance is in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by law.
