HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Establishing New Water and Sewer Rates ORDINANCE NO. 2461 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE MUNICIPAL CODE FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SECTIONS 36-3002 , 36-3003 , 36-3004 , 36-7002 , 36-7003 , THEREOF AND ADOPTING NEW SECTIONS 36-3002 , 36-3003 , 36-3004 , 36-7002 , AND 36-7003 FOR THE PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHING NEW WATER AND SEWER RATES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF AMES , IOWA, that the Municipal Code for the City of Ames, Iowa, be and the same is hereby amended as follows : Section I Sec. 36-3002 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa, as heretofore existing is hereby repealed and a new Sec. 36-3002 is adopted as follows : Sec. 36-3002 . Schedule of Rates in City. The net amount to be charged for the use of water during a meter reading interval of approximately thirty (30) days , from each consumer' s meter within the corporate limits of the city , or from any consumer with whom the city shall have a specific written contract, and connected to the water supply system of the city shall be: First 200 cubic feet of water used $1. 00 per 100 cubic feet. Next 200 cubic feet of water used $0 . 80 per 100 cubic feet. Next 600 cubic feet of water used $0 .70 per 100 cubic feet. Next 9 ,000 cubic feet of water used $0. 65 per 100 cubic feet. Next 90 , 000 cubic feet of water used $0. 55 per 100 cubic feet. Next 400 ,000 cubic feet of water used $0. 50 per 100 cubic feet. Over 500, 000 cubic feet of water used $0 .39 per 100 cubic feet. The above rates are based on the consumption of water through one meter, except where a battery of meters is installed in parallel, serving the same function as a compound meter, fed by a single service line from the main, and collected into a single header within the building, the combined readings of these several meters shall be used in computing the amount to be charged. Section 2. Sec. 36-3003 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames as heretofore existing is hereby repealed and a new Sec. 36-3003 is adopted as follows : Sec. 36-3003. Minimum Charges . Sec. 36-3004 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames as heretofore existing is hereby repealed and a new Sec. 36-3004 is adopted as follows : Sec. 36-3004 . Multiple dwellings--Mobile home parks. Multiple dwellings, including mobile home parks, may be serviced from a single meter . However, the minimum charge will be one dollar and seventy-five cents ($1. 75) multiplied by the number of dwelling units serviced from the meter. For this minimum charge, there will be a monthly total minimum allowance of two hundred (200) cubic feet of water multiplied by the number of dwelling units serviced from the meter. Rate charges for water metered in excess of this minimum allowance will be in accordance with the rate schedule, starting at the second step, as set forth in Sec. 36-3002 . For the purposes of this section a dwelling unit is defined as a self-contained living facility (i.e. , including kitchen and bath) such as an apartment or a licensed independent mobile home space. Section 4. Sec. 36-7002 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames as heretofore existing is hereby repealed and a new Sec. 36-7002 is adopted as follows: Sec. 36-7002. Single units , rates and charges established. Each and every lot, parcel of real estate, building or premises , situated within the corporate limits of the city, that is connected with and uses the sanitary facilities of the city, or that in any way uses or discharges sanitary sewage, industrial waste, water or other liquid, either directly or indirectly, into the sanitary sewerage system of the city shall pay monthly service charges , rates or rentals to the city in accordance with the following schedule: First 200 cubic feet of water used in one cycle month-$0 . 75 per 100 cubic feet. Next 200 cubic feet of water used in one cycle month-$0. 40 per 100 cubic feet. Next 600 cubic feet of water used in one cycle month-$0. 38 per 100 cubic feet. Next 9 ,000 cubic feet of water used in one cycle month-$0 . 28 per 100 cubic feet. Next 90 ,000 cubic feet of water used in one cycle month-$0. 22 per 100 cubic feet. Next 400, 000 cubic feet of water used on one cycle month-$0. 20 per 100 cubic feet. All over 500, 000 cubic feet of water used in one cycle month-$0 . 16 per 100 cubic feet. Minimum charge per thirty (30) days period or part thereof-$1. 50 . -2- The minimum sewerage service charge applies to every person discharging waste water or other liquid into the sanitary sewerage systems of the city, although no water meter is installed upon his premises. Section 5 . Sec. 36-7003 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames as heretofore existing is hereby repealed and a new Sec. 36-7003 is adopted as follows : Sec. 36-7003 . Multiple dwellings--mobile home parks, rates and charges established. Where a single water meter serves a multiple dwelling or mobile home park, the minimum charge for sanitary sewage service shall be one dollar and twenty-five cents ($1 . 25) multiplied by the number of dwelling units or mobile home spaces serviced. There shall be a monthly allowance of 200 cubic feet of water per unit for which the said minimum charge is paid. Water metered in excess of the minimum allowance shall be subject to charges for sanitary sewage service in accord- ance with the rate schedule, starting at the second step, as established in Sec. 36-7002 . For the purpose of this section a dwelling unit is defined as a self-contained living facility (i .e. , including kitchen and bath) such as an apartment or a space for an independent mobile home. Section 6 . All ordinances or any part of an ordinance in conflict herewith is hereby repealed. Section 7 .
