HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Establishing a Fuel Price Adjustment Rider I ' ORDINANCE NO, 2460 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE MUNICIPAL CODE FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SECTION 36-8002 THEREOF AND ADOPTING A NEW '. `- SECTION 36-8002 FOR THE PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHING A FUEL PRICE ADJUSTMENT RIDER TO INCREASE OR DECREASE MONTHLY BILLINGS FOR ELECTRICAL ENERGY IN RESPONSE TO INCREASES OR DECREASES IN THE COST OF FUEL USED IN THE GENERATING PLANT OF THE AMES MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC SYSTEM,. s, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, that the Municipal Code for the City of Ames be and the same is hereby amended as follows: Section 1. Sec. 36-8002 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames is hereby repealed and a new Section 36-8002 is adopted as follows: Section 36-8002. Rates established. The rates at which charges will be made for electric energy and service rendered to consumers by the electric utility of the city are established by Sections 36-8003 and 36-8004 hereof. The net monthly billing based on said rates will be increased or decreased by an amount corresponding to the increase or decrease in the average cost to the city for power plant fuel in the preceding quarter annum. The incremental charge will.be computed by multiplying the number of kilowatt-hours used by a customer by . 016 times the difference between the base fuel cost and the average fuel cost of the preceding quarter annum. The base fuel cost is 30� per million BTU. The a' average fuel cost shall be determined by dividing the total cost of fuel burned in the city-owned generating facilities in the 90 day period of the preceding quarter annum by the total heating value of the fuel burned in the same period in BTU (British Thermal Units} times one million. In the event all or any part of the energy supplied is generated in facilities not owned by the city and obtained by the city through power purchases or plant participation agreements, the fuel price adjustment shall be modified to account for the fuel price adjustment affecting the generating costs of non-owned generating facilities. Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its publication as required by law through December 31 , 1975. } Passed this 18thday of December 1973. !i s Mary E.
