HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amending Chapter 12 of Municipal Code; Relating to Wards and Precincts R AW , ORDINANCE NO.� 2385 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 412 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE iCITY OF AMES , IOWA: REPEALING SECTIONS 12-2002 THROUGH 12-2009 ; ESTABLISHING NEW SECTIONS TO BE DESIGNATED 12-2002 THROUGH 12- 2009 ; DESCRIBING THE FOUR WARDS AND EACH OF THE PRECINCTS THEREIN; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HERE WITH AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. I IT IS ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA: I Section 1 . Sections 12-2002 through 12-2009 of the I Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa, as hitherto existing are hereby repealed. Section 2. New sections to be numbered 12-2002 through 12-2009 are hereby added to the Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa, as follows : Sec . 12-2002. First ward described. The first ward consists of all that part of the city which lies East of a line described as : Beginning ! at the South corporate boundary in South Duff Avenue; thence Norte along South Duff Avenue to Squaw Creek; thence following squaw Creek Westerly to the Chicago II & Northwestern Railway tracks ; thence North along said tracks to Lincoln Way; thence West along Lincoln Way to the intersection with Grand Avenue; thence North it along Grand Avenue to Tenth Street; thence West along Tenth Street to Harding Avenue, thence North along i 1 Harding Avenue to Thirteenth Street; thence West along Thirteenth Street to Roosevelt Avenue; thence North along Roosevelt Avenue to Sixteenth Street; thence East along Sixteenth Street to Grand Avenue; thence North along Grand Avenue to the corporate limits . Sec . 12-2003 . Second ward described. i The second ward consists of all that part of the ' city lying North and West cf a line described as : Beginning at the West Corporate boundary in Ontario Street; thence East along Cntario Street and Ontario Street extended until said extension intersects the main line tracks of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company; thence Southeasterly along the said tracks to Grand Avenue; thence North along Grand Avenue to Tenth Street; thence West along Tenth Street to Harding Avenue; thence North along Harding Avenue to Thirteenth Street; thence West along Thirteenth Street to Roosevelt Avenue; thence North along Roosevelt Avenue to Sixteenth Street; thence East along Sixteenth Street to Grand Avenue; thence North along Grand Avenue to the corporate limits . Sec. 12-2004 . Third ward described. The third ward consists of that part of the city lying South and West of a line described as : Beginning I at the West boundary of the corporate limits in Lincoln Way; thence East along Lincoln Way to the tracks of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company and thence South- westerly along said tracks to Squaw Creek; thence East along Squaw Creek to South Duff Avenue; thence South along South Duff Avenue to the South corporate limits . Sec. 12-2005. Fourth ward described. The fourth ward consists of all that part of the city which lies within a line described as : Beginning I! �i [ I -2- at the West corporation boundary in Ontario Street; thence East along Ontario Street and Ontario Street extended until said extension intersects the main I line tracks of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company; thence Southeasterly along said tracks to i Grand Avenue; thence South along Grand Avenue to Lincoln Way; thence West along Lincoln Way to the iWest corporate limits . i { Sec. 12-2006. First ward voting precincts . The first ward is divided into voting precincts known and as hereinafter described: (a) First ward precinct No. 1. First ward, precinct No. 1 , consists of that part of the first ward lying South of the main line tracks of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company. (b) First ward precinct No. 2. First ward, precinct No . 2, consists of that part of the first ward lying North of the main line tracks of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company , and South and West of a line described as : Beginning on the ward boundary at the inter- section of Harding Avenue and Thirteenth Street; thence East along Thirteenth Street to Douglas Avenue; thence South along Douglas Avenue to Seventh Street; thence West along Seventh Street to Kellogg Avenue; thence South along Kellogg Avenue to Sixth Street; thence East along Sixth it Street to Duff Avenue; thence South along Duff ( Avenue to the main line tracks of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company . (c) First ward precinct No. 3 . First ward , precinct No. 3 , consists of that part of the first ward lying immediately to the East of the West ward boundary and within a line des- cribed as : Beginning at the intersection of Harding Avenue and Thirteenth Street; thence East along Thirteenth Street to Carroll Avenue; thence North along Carroll Avenue to Fourteenth Street; thence East along Fourteenth Street to Ii Stafford Avenue; thence North along Stafford Avenue to Sixteenth Street; thence East along Sixteenth Street to Maxwell Avenue; thence North along Maxwell Avenue to George Allen Avenue; thence Northeasterly along George Allen Avenue j to Paulson Drive; thence Northwesterly along Paulson Drive to Twentieth Street; thence West along Twentieth Street to Douglas Avenue; thence South along Douglas Avenue to Sixteenth Street; thence West along Sixteenth Street to Burnett Avenue; thence North along Burnett Avenue to Eighteenth Street; thence West along Eighteenth i Street to Wilson Avenue; thence North along ' I Wilson Avenue to Eighteenth Street; thence West along Eighteenth Street to Grand Avenue, the ward boundary . (d) First ward precinct No. 4 . First ward, precinct No. 4 , consists of that part of the first ward lying North of the main line tracks of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company and East and South of a line described as : Beginning in the center of the tracks of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company at Duff Avenue; thence North along Duff Avenue to Sixth Street; thence West along Sixth Street to Kellogg I 1 -3- Avenue; thence North along Kellogg Avenue to Seventh Street; thence East along Seventh Street to Douglas Avenue; thence North along Douglas Avenue to Thirteenth Street; thence East along Thirteenth. Second ward voting precincts . i The second ward is divided into voting precincts known and as hereinafter described : (a) Second ward precinct No. 1. Second ward, precinct No. 1, con sts of that part of the second ward lying East of Squaw Creek and South of Thirteenth Street. (b) Second ward precinct No. 2. Second ward, precinct No. 2, consists of that part of the second ward lying West of Squaw Creek and South of a line described as the extension of Ontario ! Street East to where it coincides with Thirteenth Street; and thence East along Thirteenth Street to Squaw Creek. (c) Second ward precinct No. 3 . Second ward, precinct No. 3 , consists of that part of the second ward lying North of the Eastward extension of Ontario Street to where it coincides with i Thirteenth Street and North of Thirteenth Street; bounded by a line described as : Beginning at a point in said extension of Ontario Street at Clear Creek; thence Northeasterly along Clear Creek to where it joins Squaw Creek; thence Easterly along Squaw Creek to the West section line of Section 34 , Twp . 84N, R24W; thence North along said West section line and the West section line of Section 27 , Twp . 84N, R24W to the Chicago i I f I! -4- i & Northwestern Railway line; thence Southeasterly t along said railway line to Twentieth Street; thence East along Twentieth Street to Coolidge Drive; thence South along Coolidge Drive to Bel 1� Air Drive to Sixteenth Street; thence East along Sixteenth Street to the ward boundary . Fourth ward, precinct No. 1, consists of that part of the fourth ward North of Lincoln Way, South of Clear Creek and West of a line described as : Beginning at the intersection of Lincoln Way and Campus Avenue; thence North along Campus Avenue to West Street; thence East along West Street to Hyland Avenue; thence North along Hyland Avenue to Clear Creek. (b) Fourth ward precinct No. 2 . Fourth ward , precinct No . 2 , consists of that part of the fourth ward North of Clear Creek and West of Hyland Avenue. (c) Fourth ward precinct No. 3 . Fourth ward , precinct No. 3 , consists of that part of the fourth ward lying immediately North of Lincoln Way bounded by a line described as : Beginning at the intersection of Lincoln Way and Sheldon Avenue; thence North along Sheldon Avenue to Union Drive; thence East and Southeast along Union Drive to Welch Road; thence Southwesterly along Welch Road to Lincoln Way , the ward boundary. (d) Fourth ward precinct No. 4. Section 3 . All ordinances and aprts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed., Section 4.
