Home My WebLink About~Master - Amending Chapter 33 of Municipal Code; Relating to Stop Signs and Yield Signs ORDINANCE NO . 2323 N ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER #33 , CITED AS "THE TRAFFIC ORDINANCE" F THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES , IOWA, REPEALING ARTICLE I , DIVISION 2 ; ESTABLISHING A NEW ARTICLE XI , DIVISION 2 , RE- QUIRING ALL DRIVERS OF VEHICLES TO STOP BEFORE ENTERING A "THROUGH STREET" , DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ERECT "STOP" OR "YIELD" SIGNS ON STREETS INTERSECTING THROUGH STREETS AND DESIGNATING "THROUGH STREETS" ; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES N CONFLICT HEREWITH AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE . BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES , IOWA: Section 1 . Article XI , Division 2 of Chapter #33 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa , as hitherto existing is hereby repealed . 5 Section 2 . A new Division of Article XI , Chapter #33 , is here- by added to the Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa, as foll- ws : DIVISION 2 . THROUGH STREETS Sec . 33-11020 . Duty to stop or yield . The driver of a vehicle shall stop or yield as required by this chapter before entering an intersection with a through street and shall yield the right-of-way to other vehicles which have entered the intersection from said through streets or which are approaching so closely on said through streets as to constitute a hazard , but said driver having so yielded may proceed cautiously and with due care enter said through street . Sec . 33-11021 . Manager to erect , maintain signs . Whenever this Code or an ordinance of this city designated and des- cribes a 'through street" it is the duty of the City Manager to place and maintain a "Stop" or "Yield" sign on each and every street intersecting such "through street" or inter- secting that portion thereof described and designated as such by any ordinance of this city . Sec . 33-11021 . 1 . Third Street , South, South Third Street is designated a "through street" from the West line of Duff Avenue through the intersection with South Fourth Street . Sec . 33-11021 . 2 . Fourth Street , South. South Fourth Street is designated a "through street" from its inter- section with South Third Street to the East line of Elwood Drive . Sec . 33-11021 . 3 . Fifth Street . Fifth Street is designated a "through street" from the East line of Grand Avenue to the West line of Duff Avenue , except at Kellogg Avenue . Sec . 33-11021 . 4 . Sixth Street . Sixth Street is designated a "through street" from the West line of Duff Avenue to the Squaw Creek Bridge , except at Kellogg Avenue and Grand Avenue . Sec . 33-1_1021 . 5 . Ninth Street . Ninth Street . Ninth Street is designated a "through street" from the West line of Duff Avenue to the West line of Ridgewood Avenue , except at Grand Avenue . Sec . 33-11021 . 6 . Thirteenth Street . Thirteenth Street is designated a "through street" from the East corporate limits to the East line of Stange Road , except at Dayton Avenue , Duff Avenue and Grand Avenue . -2- Sec . 33-11021 . 7 . Sixteenth Street is designated a "through street" from its East line of its intersection with Carr Drive to the West line of Ridgewood Avenue , except at Maxwell Avenue , Duff Avenue, Burnett Avenue , and Grand Avenue . Sec . 33-11021 . 8 . Twentieth Street . Twentieth Street is designated a "through street" from the West line of Duff Avenue to the West line of High School Entrance, except at Grand Avenue . Sec . 33-11021 . 9 . Twenty-fourth Street . Twenty-fourth Street is designated a "through street11 from the West line of Duff Avenue to the West corporate limits , except at Grand Avenue . Ash Avenue is designated a "through street" from the South line of Lincoln Way through the intersection with Mortenson Road except at Knapp Street . Sec . 33-11021 . 12 . Beach Avenue . Beach Avenue is des- ignated a "through street" from the South line of Lincoln Way to the South corporate limits , except at Elwood Drive . Sec . 33-11021 . 13 . Carr Drive . Carr Drive is designated a "through street" from the West line of Meadowlane Avenue through the intersection of Sixteenth Street . Sec . 33-11021 . 14 . North Dakota Avenue . North Dakota Avenue is designated a "through street" from the North line of Lincoln Way to the North corporate limits , except at Ontario Street . Sec . 33-11021 . 15 . South Dakota Avenue . Lincoln Way is des- ignated a "through street" from the East corporate limits to the West corporate limits , except at Duff Avenue , Kellogg Avenue , Elm Avenue , Maple Avenue , Beach Avenue , Knoll Road , Ash Avenue , Lynn Avenue , Stanton Avenue , Welch Avenue , Hayward Avenue , Sheldon Avenue and Franklin Avenue . Sec . 33-11021. 28 . Main Street . Main Street is des- ignated a "through street" from the West line of Duff Avenue until it becomes Northwestern Avenue at Allan Drive , except at Kellogg Avenue . Sec . 33-11021 . 29 . Mortenson Road. Mortenson Road is designated a "through street" from the intersection with Ash Avenue to the West corporate limits , except at State Avenue . Sec . 33-11021 . 30 . Northwestern Avenue . Northwestern Avenue is designated a " through street" from the extension of Main Street to the South line of Johnson Street , except at Sixth Street , Ninth Street , Thirteenth Street , Twentieth Street , and Twenty-fourth Street . Sec . 33-11021 . 31 . Ontario Street . Ontario Street is designated a "through street from the intersection with Hyland Avenue to the West corporate limits , except at North Dakota Avenue . Woodland Avenue is designated a "through street" from the intersection with West Street through the intersection of Hickory Drive , except at Franklin Street . Sec . 33-11021 . 38 . Hayward Avenue . Hayward Avenue is designated a "through street" from the South line of Lincoln Way to the South corporate limits except at Knapp Street and Storm Street . Sec . 33-11021 . 39 . Storm Street. Storm Street is des- ignated a "through street" from the West line of Ash Avenue to the East line of Hayward Avenue . Section 3 . All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed . Section 4 . This ordinance is in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by law.
