AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 33 CITED AS THE "TRAFFIC
ORDINANCE" OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWAt
REPEALING SECTION 33-9008; ESTABLISHING A NEW SECTION 33-9008
REQUIRING VEHICLES MAKING A LEFT TURN AT INTERSECTIONS TO
YIELD THE RIGHT-OF-WAY TO ALL ONCOMING VEHICLES ; REPEALING
ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH
AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
IT IS ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES,
IOWA:
Section 1. Section 33-9008 of the Municipal Code of
the City of Ames, Iowa, as hitherto existing is hereby repealed.
Section 2. A new section to be numbered Section 33-9008
is hereby added to the Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa,
and is as follows :
Sec. 33-9008. Turning Left at Intersections. The
driver of a vehicle within an intersection intending
to turn to the left shall yield the right-of-way to
all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction
which are within the intersection or so close thereto
as to constitute an immediate hazard, then said driver,
having so yielded and having given a signal when and
as required by this chapter, may make such left turn.
Section 3 . All ordinances and parts of ordinances in
conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
Section 4. This ordinance is in full force and effect
from and after its passage and publication as provided by law.
