HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amending Chapter 38 of Municipal Code; Relating to Off-Street Parking ORDINANCE NO. 2245 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 38 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA` BY REPEALING SECTION 38-1045 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE, ESTABLISHING A NEW SECTION TO BE NUMBERED 38-1045 WHICH SECTIONS STATES THE RULES FOR COMPUTING OFF-STREET PARKING; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCESAND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HERE- WITH; AND ESTABLISHES AN EFFECTIVE DATE, IT IS ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA: Section l Section 38-1045 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa, as hitherto existing is repealed Section 2 A new section to be numbered 38-1045 is added to the Municipal Code of the City of Ames , Iowa, and is as follows : Sec 38-1045 Rules for computing off-street parking In computing the number of off-street parking spaces required; the following rules govern: (a) "Floor Area" means the gross floor area of the specific use (b) Where fractional spaces result the parking spaces required are the nearest whole number . (c) The parking space requirement for a use not specifically mentioned herein is the same as required for a use of similar nature. 1 (d) Whenever a building erected or established after the effective date of this chapter is enlarge in floor area number of employees , number of dwelling units ; seating capacity or otherwise to create a need for an increase of ten per cent (10%) or more in the number of existing parking spaces , such spaces shall be provided on the basis of the enlargement or change. (e) Whenever a building existing prior to the effective date of this chapter is enlarged to the extent of fifty per cent (50%) or more in the floor area or in the area used . said building or use shall then and there after comply with the parking requirements set forth herein.. (f) In the case of mixed uses . the parking spaces required shall equal the sum of the requirements of the various uses computed separatel3 . (g) The size of a parking space for one vehicle shall consist of a rectangular area having dimensions of not less than nine (9) by nineteen (19) feet plus adequate area for ingress and egress . Section 3 . All ordinances and part of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed. -2- Section 4 .
