HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amending Chapter 16 of Municipal Code; Relating to Hours of Incineration C cwb/7-14-67 ORDINANCE Nb. 2200 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 16 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING SECTION 16-1008 THERE- OF AS HITHERTO EXISTING; BY CHANGING THE HOURS FOR THE PER- FORMANCE OF INCINERATION; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. IT IS ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA: Section 1. Section 16-1008 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, as hitherto existing, is repealed. Section 2. A new section, to be numbered 16-1008, is added to Chapter 16 of the Municipal Code, City of Ames, Iowa, and is as follows : Sec. 16-1008. Manner of garbage and refuse disposal. "Garbage and refuse may be disposed of by householders or other occupants of any building or place of business as hereinafter provided: (a) Garbage. Garbage may be disposed of as follows (1) By delivery to a licensed collection agency; (2) By hauling to the city operated landfill disposal area and dumping there as directed by the custodian in charge, providing that the containers and vehicle used in trans- portation conform to the requirements of section 16-1019; (3) By disposal in a home garbage disposal unit; (4) By incineration in a properly designed and operated incinerator previously approved by the city manager or his authorized representative and for which a garbage burning permit has been issued. Such incineration may only be performed between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. , and by 8:00 p.m. , all fires must be completely extinguished so that no burning embers remain or smoke or gases emit therefrom. (b) Refuse. Refuse may be disposed of as follows : (1) By disposal as provided in paragraphs (a) (1) and (2) ; (2) Dried grass trimmings, dried leaves and paper may be incinerated on private property only in such manner that such fires will be safely confined at all times under all conditions ; (3) Other refuse, except materials manu- factured in whole or in part from wool, rubber, leather, or other materials which emit offensive odors during combustion, may be incinerated in a properly designed cwb/7-14-67 Ot -2- and operated incinerator approved by the city manager or his authorized representative and for which a refuse burn- ing permit has been issued; (4) Incineration as provided in paragraphs (2) and (3) above may only be performed between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and by 8:00 p.m. all fires must be com- pletely extinguished so that no burning embers remain or smoke or gas emit there- from. " Section 3 . All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed. Section 4.
