HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amending Chapter 1 of Municipal Code; Corporate Boundaries and Wards ORDINANCE NO. 2173 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, BY REPEALING ALL OF SAID CHAPTER 1; AND ESTABLISHING THE CORPORATE BOUNDARIES AND LIMITS OF THE CITY OF AMES, DIVIDING THE CITY OF AMES INTO FOUR WARDS, AND DIVIDING SAID WARDS INTO PRECINCTS . IT IS ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA, AS FOLLOWS : Section 1. Chapter 1 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, is repealed. The following is enacted in lieu thereof to be known as Chapter 1 of the Municipal Code of the City of Ames, Iowa, with section numbers as hereinafter pro- vided: Chapter 1 Corporate Limits - Wards - Precincts 1-1. The corporate boundaries and limits of the City of Ames, Iowa, heretofore and at various times established by law, or by act of the City Council, are hereby codified, determined and declared to be as Division into wards. The territory of the City of Ames is divided into four (4) wards. -5- 1-2. 1. First Ward. The first ward consists of all that part of the city which lies North of the Main line tracks of the Chicago and Northwestern Rail- way Company; East of the centerline of Burnett Avenue and South of the centerline of Thirteenth Street; also that part of the city lying North of the cen- terline of Thirteenth Street and East of the cen- terline of Grand Avenue. 1-2. 2. Second Ward. The second ward consists of all that part of the city lying North of the main line tracks of the Chicago and Northwestern Rail- way Company; South of the centerline of Thirteenth Street; West of the centerline of Burnett Avenue; and East of the West half of the West half of Sec- tion 31 Township 83 North, Range 24 West of the 5th P.M. ; also that part of the city lying North of the centerline of Thirteenth Street; West of the centerline of Grand Avenue; and East of a line described as beginning at the intersection of the centerline of Thirteenth Street and the West line of Section 34, Township 84 North, Range 24 West of the 5th P.M. , thence North along the West line of said Section 34, and following the corporate limits of the city to the North branch line of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway Company, thence northwesterly along said railroad tracks to the North Corporate limits. 1-2. 3. Third Ward. The third ward consists of all that part of the city lying south of the main line tracks of the Chicago and Northwestern Rail- way Company lying East of the West half of the West half of Section 3, 10, and 15, Township 83 North, Range 24 West and South of the centerline of Lincoln Way lying West of the East half of the West half, Section 10 and 15, Township 83 North, Range 24 West. 1-2.4. Fourth Wa rd. The fourth ward consists of that part of the city lying North of the center- line of Lincoln Way and West of a line described as beginning at the intersection of the center- line of Lincoln Way and Southeast corner of the Southwest quarter of the Southwest quarter of Section 3, Township 83 North, Range 24 West of the 5th P.M. , thence North to the centerline of Thirteenth Street, thence West along the center- line of Thirteenth Street to its intersection with the West line of Section 34, Township 84, North, Range 24 West of the 5th P.M. , thence North to the Northwest corner of the Southwest quarter of the Northwest quarter of said Section 34. 1-3. First Ward Precincts. The first ward is divided into voting precincts known and as here- inafter described . -6- 1-3 .1. First Ward Precinct No. 1. First ward, precinct number 1, consists of that part of the First ward lying South of the Centerline of Thir- teenth Street. 1-3 .2 First Ward Precinct No. 2 . First ward, precinct number 2, consists of that part of the first ward which lies North of the centerline of Thirteenth Street and South of the centerline of Twentieth Street and West of the Centerline of Duff Avenue; and North of the centerline of Thir- teenth Street and South of the centerline of Six- teenth Street extended East and East of the center- line of Duff Avenue. 1-3 .3. First Ward Precinct No. 3. First ward, precinct number 3, consists of that part of the first ward lying North of the centerline of Twen- tieth Street and extended East and North of the centerline of Sixteenth Street extended East and East of the centerline of Duff Avenue. 1-4. Second Ward Precincts. The second ward is divided into voting precincts known and as here- inafter described. 1-4.1. Second Ward Precinct No. 1. Second ward, precinct number 1, consists of that part of the second ward lying South of the centerline of Tenth Street, extended West including that area South of Parkway. 1-4.2. Second Ward Precinct No. 2 . Second ward, precinct number 2, consists of that part of the second ward lying North of the centerline of Tenth Street extended West and South of the centerline of Sixteenth Street and such line extended West, except that area South of Parkway_ 1-4.3 . Second Ward Precinct No. 3 . Second ward, precinct number 3, consists of that part of the second ward which lies North of the centerline of Sixteenth Street and such line extended West. 1-5. Third Ward Precincts. The third ward is divided into voting precincts known and as here- inafter described. 1-5 . 1. Third Ward Precinct No. 1. Third ward, precinct number 1, consists of that part of the third ward lying East of the West half of the West half of Sections 3 and 10, Township 83 North, Range 24 West of the 5th P.M. , and such line as extended South. 1-5.2 . Third Ward Precinct No. 2 . Third ward, precinct number 2, consists of that part of the third ward lying East of the centerline of Hayward -7- r Avenue and such line extended South and West of the East half of the West half of Section 10, Township 83 North, Range 24 West of the 5th P.M. and such line as extended South. 1-5. 3. Third Ward Precinct No. 3. Third Ward, precinct number 3, consists of that part of the third ward lying West of the centerline of Hayward Avenue and such line extended South. 1-6. Fourth Ward Precincts. The fourth ward is divided into voting precincts known and as here- inafter described . 1-6. 1. Fourth Ward Precinct No. 1. Fourth ward, precinct number 1, consists of that part of the fourth ward which lies West of the centerline of Sheldon Avenue extended North; and South of the centerline of Clear Creek. 1-6. 2. Fourth Ward Precinct No. 2. Fourth ward, precinct number 2, consists of that part of the fourth ward which lies North of Clear Creek and West of the centerline of Sheldon Avenue extended North. 1-6. 3 Fourth Ward Precinct No. 3. Fourth ward, precinct number 3, consists of that part of the fourth ward lying East of the centerline of Sheldon Avenue extended North. Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are repealed. Section 3. This ordinance is in full force and effect from and after February 7, 1967, and its passage and publication as provided by law.
